Description of NICE Toona TO5024 – standalone operator for swing gates, for gate leaves up to 5 m / 500 kg
NICE Toona TO5024 is a standalone motor 24 V DC for one gate leaf swing gate. It is non-reversible, with an aluminium body and a bronze lead nut. The 24 V rating refers to the motor, not necessarily to the control unit's mains supply.
Usage limits: 5 m and 500 kg are not permitted at the same time. At 5 m, the graph allows approximately 200 kg; 500 kg is allowed up to approximately 1.8 m. Check the specific combination against the TO5024 curve; with a solid infill and in windy conditions, allow for higher loads. When replacing an older operator, check the dimensions of the brackets and pins.
The motor's magnetic encoder works with a compatible control unit. Current MC824HR30/MCA1R30 supports position learning, BlueBUS and configuration according to its own manual. The older MC824HR10 has a different circuit board. Choose the kit contents, photocells, radio receiver and battery based on the actual control unit.

NICE Toona 5 TO5024 drive manual
TO5024 motor installation: original NICE manual. Programming: follow the manual for the installed control unit – for the current MC824HR30/MCA1R30 R30 manual; for the older MC824HR10/MCA1R10 its Slovak manual.
Choosing a drive – is the drive NICE Toona 5 TO5024 suitable for my gate?
TO5024 limits: The maximum values of 5 m and 500 kg cannot be used at the same time. At 5 m, the curve allows approximately 200 kg; 500 kg is allowed up to approximately 1.8 m. For your gate, read the permitted combination from the curve explicitly labelled TO5024.
Service life by load
Add the relevant indices for one gate leaf and read the estimate from the NICE graph. Manufacturer’s example: 350 kg and 3.5 m = 10% + 10% = 20%, giving approximately 160,000 cycles with no other influencing factors. This is an estimate, not a guarantee.

Installing the NICE Toona 5 TO5024 operator
A typical (optional) operator wiring setup with accessories looks as follows:
List of accessories
|
Wiring the NICE Toona TO5024 operator
The TO5024 motor runs on 24 V DC and has separate encoder wires. Switch off the power before wiring; the motor terminals correspond to the original NICE wiring diagram. Connect to the control unit, set the motor sequence and learn the positions according to the specific installed control board.
| 1. Remove the operator cover | 2. Feed through the power cable |
|---|---|

![]() |
| 3. Connect the operator power supply | 4. Operator power wiring diagram |
|
For outward opening, NICE specifies reversing the motor power polarity compared with a standard installation. An extended rear bracket PLA6 and the correct geometry according to the installation graph are also required. Check the direction, terminals and encoder against the actual control unit. |
On the other side, connect the wiring to the control unit as follows: Check the wiring on the current MC824HR30 against the control board manual |
Accessory wiring on the MC824HR30
The following terminals belong to the MC824HR30/MCA1R30 control unit when used with a TO5024 motor, not to the motor itself. Disconnect the mains and backup battery before working. For a different control board, use its own wiring diagram.
| Accessories | Terminals, voltage and polarity |
|---|---|
| BlueBUS photocells | Connect compatible photocells, such as EPMB, using a two-wire connection to BlueBUS. + and − are not polarity-sensitive. Set the address and repeat the learning procedure after changing devices. |
| STOP and command inputs | Input STOP accepts a potential-free NO or NC contact, or a device with an 8.2 kΩresistor; its state is learned. SbS, Open and Close accept a potential-free NO contact on the corresponding pair of terminals. Contacts have no +/− polarity; do not apply an external voltage to the input. |
| Auxiliary power supply | Right terminal of the STOP pair = −, left terminal of the SbS pair = +, as viewed in the image below (labels above the terminals). Power supply for a suitable reader or module: 24 V DC (−30% to +50%), maximum 200 mA, including in Stand-by mode. Wire the module’s command relay separately as a potential-free contact; check the module’s permissible voltage range and current draw. |
| Beacon, lock, indicator light | FLASH: 12 V DC, maximum 21 W; ELS: 12 V AC, maximum 15 VA, no fixed +/− polarity; OGI: 24 V DC, maximum 4 W. For FLASH/OGI, the diagram does not specify the +/− order on the pair of terminals, so do not assume it; for a polarized product, check the markings on both the control board and the product. The outputs can have different functions depending on the programming. |
| Radio and backup power | The plug-in receiver goes into the SM, and the backup battery goes into its connector, depending on the fitted control board. They are not connected to BlueBUS or to the motor terminals. |
For detailed terminal positions, programming and testing of the safety devices, see the MC824HR30 control unit manual.
I. Installing the rear mounting bracket
Mounting the brackets: Before installation, measure the hinge offset and dimensions A/B/C according to the installation diagram. For a standard steel post, we recommend a 120 × 120 mm. Profile 100 × 100 mm Use only after assessing the strength of the post, anchoring and foundation in relation to the gate and wind loads.
If the diagram dimensions do not work, adjust the rear bracket or use the extended PLA6. When opening outwards, an extended rear bracket is required; determine its position using the diagram and check that the gate leaf moves freely.

![]() |
| Diagram showing inward opening | Diagram showing outward opening |
Calculate the position of the rear bracket using the diagram, which gives you dimensions A and B and the maximum opening angle. Note that values A and B must be similar (ideally identical) for the actuator to move smoothly in a linear motion.
The example explains how to read the dimensions. Determine the dimensions for TO5024 using the model installation diagram immediately below.
Calculation procedure:
- Measure the distance C from the diagram
- Find the measured C value on the diagram, draw a horizontal line, and read B from the adjacent scale.
- The intersection with the d.i.l. line indicates the maximum opening angle; read A from it by following a vertical line.
- The manufacturer does not recommend B values below the dashed t line.
- If the angle is unsuitable, adjust A and, if necessary, B so they are approximately equal; check the gate leaf's full range of movement.
Before attaching the bracket to a post or wall, shorten it to the required length corresponding to dimensions A and B and weld it to the mounting plate.
![]() |
![]() |
| 1. Cut the bracket to the required length | 2. Weld the shortened bracket to the mounting plate |
The supplied rear bracket is 150 mm. Before cutting and welding, check that the resulting dimensions match the diagram.
If everything checks out, attach the rear bracket to the post or wall using screws, wall plugs and washers.
II. Installing the front mounting bracket
The front bracket must be fitted to the gate leaf at a distance determined by the values D and E, which you can read from the table (value D is fixed at 880 mm):
| A (mm) | E (mm) |
|---|---|
| 100 | 780 |
| 110 | 770 |
| 120 | 760 |
| 130 | 750 |
| 140 | 740 |
| 150 | 730 |
| 160 | 720 |
| 170 | 710 |
| 180 | 700 |
| 190 | 690 |
| 200 | 680 |
| 210 | 670 |
| 220 | 660 |
| 230 | 650 |
| 240 | 640 |
| 250 | 630 |
| 260 | 620 |
| 270 | 610 |
| 280 | 600 |
The supplied package includes a weld-on bracket. If you would prefer a bolt-on bracket, we recommend ordering the alternative. NICE PLA8 bolt-on bracket.
- Calculate from the table the value E
- Calculate the height according to the diagram the bracket heights (view image)
- Attach the bracket to the gate leaf (if welding it, we recommend temporarily tack-welding it only)

V. Adjusting the mechanical travel stop
The TO5024 has an internal mechanical opening stop. First unlock the motor, loosen the stop screw, manually set the required open position, slide the stop up to the pin and tighten the screw. Then manually return the gate leaf to the closed position and lock the motor. Set the closed position and any external stop according to the specific gate and control unit.

Manual unlocking of the NICE Toona 5 TO5024 operator
Unlock the operator only when the gate leaf is stationary. If the gate has an electric lock, unlock it first; after moving the gate manually, secure the operator again.
In the event of a power failure, you will not be able to operate the gate using the remote control. Therefore, the operator can be unlocked using the release key and the gate can be moved manually:
- Slide the release-lock cover aside
- Insert the release key and turn it clockwise
- Pull out the release lever; you can now move the gate manually
Inspection and maintenance
Arrange for the operator to be professionally inspected at least every 6 months; more frequent inspections may be needed with intensive use. With the power disconnected, a technician should check the fastenings, corrosion, wear and lubrication of the lead screw and nut, then test the movement and safety devices. If the gate behaves unusually, do not attempt repairs yourself; contact the installation company.
