Compatible accessories for the NICE Toona 4 TO4005 operator

Use the listed accessories according to the terminals and outputs on the actual control unit. Current TO4005 kits include MC800; older kits may have a different board. Check the specific wiring before installation.

We also recommend purchasing the following compatible optional accessories for the operator:

What Why Type
Control unit

The operator's control electronics.

  • Control unit NICE-MC800 with MCA5 control board MCA5 (older generation; the current MC800 has an MCA5R30 board)
  • Control unit with housing NICE-MC200 (for one 230 V motor)
Signals gate movement. Only the model expressly specified as having an antenna includes one; the choice of light depends on the output of the control unit used.
  • ELAC – flashing light with antenna for kits with MC800.
  • For 230 V power supply MC800/MCA5R30 has a 230 V AC mains-voltage FLASH output, maximum 21 W, for a flashing light with its own flasher. For another flashing light, check the voltage, power consumption, built-in flashing function and wiring; the motor voltage alone is not enough to choose one.

Monitor the area between the transmitter and receiver. If the beam is interrupted, they send a signal to the control unit; the response depends on the wiring and settings. Test the safety of the entire gate after installation.

On MC800 BlueBUS and contact photocells connect to different inputs.

Contact photocells
Connect relay photocells with a suitable contact to the corresponding input on the actual control unit.
  • Wired relay type – EPM
  • Relay type with reflector – EPMOR
  • Wired anti-vandal relay type – EPMA
Choose according to the receiver in the specific kit and the required coding.
  • Receiver OXIBD supports suitably coded remote controls MYGO4 and FLO2RE. For two-way control, use the following pair: ON3EBD + OXIBD.
  • For long range, use this separate pair: ON3ELR + OXILR. Do not mix and match transmitters from these systems.
The receiver and transmitter must use the same coding; the equipment included in the kits offered is shown in the kit table.

  • GSM receivers: GSM modules Connect them using a suitable control contact, according to the input on the control unit in use.

For improved remote-control range.

  •  integrated into the warning light ELAC
  • standalone antenna ABFKIT

If you forget your remote control, or if many vehicles or people visit and you don't want to give each person a remote or open the gate yourself.

Operate the gate with a key using a switch wired to the control unit from any convenient location.

  • surface-mounted, with a standard cylinder EKS
  • surface-mounted, with a European cylinder, EKSEU
  • recessed, with a standard cylinder EKSI
  • recessed, with a European cylinder EKSIEU

Operate the gate using a card or key fob by holding it up to the card reader.

  • ERA Transponder Reader ETPB
The lock holds the gate leaf in the closed position. The control unit must release it before opening; check suitability and voltage for the gate and specific control unit.

Gate leaf length and weight limits

The NICE chart for Toona 4 allows approximately 500 kg for a gate leaf up to 1.8 m long and 300 kg at 3 m. Between these points, the maximum permitted weight decreases as the length increases. Also take into account smooth gate movement, solid infill, and wind.

Installing the TO4005 operator

Before fastening, check that the post, its foundation and its anchoring can withstand the loads from the gate leaf, operator and wind. The profile dimensions alone do not determine suitability: the material, wall thickness, height, hinge position and condition of the foundation also matter.

If the hinge position and post shape do not allow the dimensions shown in the installation chart, adjust the rear bracket or use extended PLA6 bracket. Determine dimensions A and B from the measured value of C and the required opening angle using the NICE installation chart. When opening outwards, an extended rear bracket is required; determine its length from the chart and check that the gate leaf moves freely.

Before fastening, also check that the gate leaf moves smoothly and maintains a safe distance from fixed obstacles. The front and rear brackets differ in height by F = 34 mm.

Calculate the position of the rear bracket using the chart, which shows dimensions A and B and the maximum opening angle. Note that A and B must be similar (ideally equal) to allow the operator to move smoothly in a straight line.

NICE Toona 4 installation chart: dimensions A, B, C and opening angle
Calculation chart

Illustration showing how to calculate the installation dimensions for a NICE Toona operator
Example of reading values from the chart

Calculation procedure:

  1. Measure the distance C from the diagram
  2. On the chart, draw a horizontal line crossing the measured value C
  3. Where this line intersects the DIL (Recommended Installation Line), you can determine the maximum opening angle
  4. If the intersection is below level t,you will need to adjust the values to move the intersection above this level
  5. If the intersection is above level t,everything is fine, but if the specified maximum opening angle is unsuitable, you will need to adjust the value of A and, if necessary, the value of B, so that they are similar (ideally equal)

Before attaching the bracket to the post or wall, cut it to the required length corresponding to dimensions A and B and weld it to the mounting plate.

Cut the bracket to the required length
1. Cut the bracket to the required length

Weld the shortened bracket to the mounting plate
2. Weld the shortened bracket to the mounting plate

The standard rear bracket supplied is 150 mm long. Before welding it, compare its available length with the dimensions in the installation chart; if it is not long enough, use a suitably extended bracket.

Before attaching the rear bracket, check that the front bracket will land on a solid part of the gate leaf, as the front and rear brackets differ in height, as shown in the illustration.

Difference F = 34 mm.

NICE Toona 4–5: bracket height difference F = 34 mm

If everything checks out, attach the rear bracket to the post or wall using screws, wall plugs and washers.

II. Installing the front mounting bracket

The front bracket must be fitted to the gate leaf at a distance determined by values D and E, which you read from the table (the value D is fixed at 730 mm):

A (mm)E (mm)
100630
110620
120610
130600
140590
150580
160570
170560
180550
190540
200530
210520

The supplied package includes a bracket for welding. If you would prefer a screw-on bracket, we recommend ordering the alternative NICE PLA8 screw-on bracket.

  1. Calculate from the table the value E
  2. Calculate the height according to the diagram bracket heights (view image)
  3. Attach the bracket to the gate leaf (if welding it, we recommend tack-welding it for now)

III. Installing the gate operator on the rear bracket

Installing the NICE Toona operator on the rear bracket

  1. Attach the motor to the bracket as shown in the image, using the supplied rear-bracket pin, washer and nut.
  2. Tighten the nut fully, then loosen it by 1/10 of a turn so that the gate operator can rotate

IV. Installing the gate operator on the front bracket

Installing the NICE Toona operator on the front bracket

  1. Attach the operator to the bracket as shown in the image, using the supplied pin and washer.
  2. Tighten the pin fully

V. Micro-switch stop at opening

TO4005 is one of the 230 V Toona 4 models with a mechanical stop and micro-switch. When the stop is contacted, the micro-switch interrupts the power supply to the motor. Set and test the end position according to the original drawing and the control unit used; do not apply the procedure for the 24 V mechanical stop without first checking.

Toona 4–5 stop location according to the original NICE drawing

TO4005 motor wiring

The motor has connections AP / COM / CH and a separate protective earth connection. Carry out wiring only with the power disconnected, following NICE figure 15 and the instructions for the actual control unit. Check the direction of travel, end-position micro-switch and safety devices when testing the complete gate.

Control unit MC800 is used only in configurations that actually include it. The motor's 230 V rating does not by itself indicate the voltage of the photocell, warning light or control outputs.

Wiring accessories with the MC800 and MCA5R30 board

The following wiring applies to the MC800/MCA5R30 in current TO4005 kits. The accessory terminals are part of the control unit, not the motor itself. If using a different control unit, follow its own wiring diagram. Disconnect the mains power before starting work.

AccessoriesTerminals, power supply and polarity
Auxiliary power supply
On the MCA5R30, terminal 3 = 0 V (−) and terminal 4 = +24 V DC and the common point for the inputs. The shared current limit for powered accessories is 200 mA; check the current draw and permissible voltage of each product.
EPM relay photocells
With Standby disabled and no photocell test, power the TX transmitter and RX receiver from terminal 4 (+24 V DC) and terminal 3 (−). Connect the volt-free C–NC contact of the receiver between 4 (common) and the relevant input 8/PHOTO, 9/PHOTO1 or 10/PHOTO2. The contact has no +/− polarity. The AUX inputs must be set to relay photocell mode; in limit-switch mode, they have a different function.
EPM with Standby enabled
According to the MCA5R30 diagram, power both TX and RX between terminal 4 (+24 V DC) and terminal 5 (OutSTB, switched return line). On EPM photocells, 1 = +, 2 = return line. OutSTB is 24 V, maximum 4 W and switches off in Standby; do not use terminal 5 as a permanent negative supply. Connect the RX C–NC contact between terminal 4 and the relevant PHOTO input.
EPM with photocell test
Wire according to the photocell test diagram TX 1 → 4 (+24 V DC), TX 2 → 5 (OutSTB). The receiver is continuously powered: RX 1 → 4 (+), RX 2 → 3 (−). The RX C–NC contact remains connected between terminal 4 and the relevant PHOTO input. Do not overload OutSTB or use it at the same time to power another load; after wiring, perform device learning and test the safety function.
BlueBUS photocells
Compatible EPMB connect using two wires to BlueBUS terminals 6 and 7. + and − are not polarity-sensitive. Set the address and run device learning after adding or removing an item.
STOP and command inputs
Dry-contact input 12/STOP accepts NO, NC or 8.2 kΩ, depending on the connected device; the state is learned. 13/SbS, 14/OPEN and 15/CLOSE use an NO contact connected to terminal 4 (common). These contacts are not polarity-sensitive; do not apply an external voltage to the inputs. This also applies to the relay of a key switch or external receiver.
ELAC warning light
NICE ELAC connect to the FLASH output intended for a self-flashing lamp: switched 120/250 V AC, maximum 21 W. This is a mains-voltage output; it has no +/− polarity. Do not confuse it with the 24 V accessory terminals.
Electric lock
Terminals 1–2 / EL: 12 V AC, maximum 15 VA. The AC output has no +/− polarity; check the lock specifications.
Radio receiver
OXIBD is installed in the SMconnector; do not use power terminals 3/4 or BlueBUS for it. Connect the antenna according to the receiver instructions, not to the motor terminals.

If AUX inputs 8–11 are used for limit switches, their function differs from that of the PHOTO inputs; the microswitch in the TO4005 motor does not by itself determine the AUX setting on the control unit. If you change the photocells or wiring, repeat the relevant learning procedure and test the gate’s stopping and response. For detailed instructions, see the MC800 control unit manual.

Manual release during a power failure

  1. Slide the lock cover on the operator aside.
  2. Insert the release key, turn it, and pull out the lever.
  3. Move the gate leaf slowly by hand. When finished, re-engage the operator and check that it has engaged properly.

The procedure corresponds to the original NICE figure 16. Move the gate leaf by hand only after disconnecting the power supply and confirming that it can move safely.

Safety and maintenance

Before commissioning, check the gate leaf movement, stop, direction of travel, photocells and other safety devices. The motor has no force adjustment of its own; this is handled by the control unit. NICE requires a scheduled inspection of the operator at least every 6 months, including checks of the fixings, screw rod and operation.
