Description of NICE Toona 5016P - standalone operator for swing gates, for gate leaves up to 5 m/800 kg, for heavier-duty applications
NICE Toona TO5016P is a standalone motor 230 V AC for one gate leaf.
Operating limits: 5 m and 800 kg are not permissible simultaneously. At 5 m, the graph allows approximately 250 kg; 800 kg is allowed only up to approximately 1.8 m. Determine suitability using the TO5016P curve for the specific leaf's length and weight.
A standalone motor requires a suitable control unit. The current MC800/MCA5R30 is an option for one or two motors; MC200 is available for one motor. For an older kit, follow the instructions for the control board actually installed.

Operating range
Manufacturer's graph for TO5016P: Read the permissible combination of length and weight for one gate leaf from the curve marked TO5016P.
Service life and load
For the TO5016P, the NICE supplement gives an indicative range of 50,000 to 150,000 operating cycles. Actual service life depends on the leaf's length and weight, resistance to movement, wind, temperature, and maintenance. A specific number of cycles within this range cannot be determined or guaranteed.
Compatible control units
Currently available
- NICE MC800 – current model for one or two 230 V motors.
- NICE MC200 – current model for one 230 V motor.
Older compatible control units – discontinued
MC800 replaces the older A60, A400, A6, and A6F models in the current range. For an existing setup, do not use the MC800 manual for an older control board that is installed.
I. Installing the rear mounting bracket
Bracket mounting: Before installation, measure the hinge offset and dimensions A/B/C according to the installation graph. For a standard steel post, we recommend 120 × 120 mm. Profile 100 × 100 mm use only after assessing the strength of the post, its anchoring, and the foundation in relation to the gate and wind loads.
If the graph dimensions do not work, adjust the rear bracket or use the extended PLA6 bracket. For opening outwards, an extended rear bracket is required; position it according to the graph and check that the gate leaf moves freely.

| Inward opening diagram | Outward opening diagram |
Calculate the rear bracket position using the graph, from which you can read dimensions A and B and the maximum opening angle. Note that values A and B must be similar (ideally equal) for the operator to move smoothly in a linear motion.
The example explains how to read the measurements. Determine the dimensions for TO5016P using the model-specific installation graph directly below.
Calculation procedure:
- Measure the distance C from the diagram
- On the graph, find the measured C value, draw a horizontal line, and read B on the adjacent scale.
- The intersection with the d.i.l. line indicates the maximum opening angle; read A vertically from this point.
- The manufacturer does not recommend B values below the dashed line t.
- If the angle is unsuitable, adjust A and, if necessary, B so that they are approximately equal; check the gate leaf's full range of movement.
Before attaching the bracket to the post or wall, it must be shortened to the required length corresponding to dimension A and B and weld it to the mounting plate.

| 1. Cut the bracket to the required length | 2. Weld the shortened bracket to the mounting plate |
The supplied rear bracket is 150 mm. Before cutting and welding, check that the resulting dimensions match the drawing.
If everything is correct, secure the rear bracket to the post or wall using screws, wall plugs and washers.
Front bracket and mounting height
For TO5016P, the fixed dimension is D = 845 mm. For the measured A value, select E from the table (E = 845 mm − A). The bracket height difference shown in the NICE drawing is F = 34 mm; check it against the supplied brackets before welding.

Motor wiring and connections
Disconnect the power supply before wiring. The 230 V AC rating is the motor voltage; the control unit supply and accessory outputs are specified separately. The motor terminals are marked AP / COM / CH and protective earth. Carry out the wiring, direction-of-travel setup and microswitch checks according to the original NICE illustration and the instructions for the control unit being used. For outward opening, swap the direction wires as specified by NICE; leave the protective earth wire in place.
After wiring, check the direction of travel, stop positions and safety devices according to the manual for the specific control unit. Electrical connections and testing must be carried out by a qualified person.
Limit positions and microswitch
The 230 V motor has a mechanical stop with a microswitch that cuts the power supply when it contacts the pin. With the power disconnected, the installer must check the number and position of the stops on the supplied unit and test opening and closing according to the instructions for the actual control unit. The procedure for setting the mechanical stop on the 24 V version does not apply to this 230 V motor.
Connecting accessories to an MC800 with an MCA5R30 board
The following wiring applies to MC800/MCA5R30 in kits supplied with this control unit. The accessory terminals are on the control unit, not on the motor itself. For a different control unit, use its own wiring diagram. Disconnect the mains supply before starting work.
| Accessories | Terminals, power supply and polarity |
|---|---|
Auxiliary power supply | On the MCA5R30, terminal 3 = 0 V (−) and terminal 4 = +24 V DC and the common connection for the inputs. The total current limit for powered accessories is 200 mA; check the current draw and permissible voltage of each product. |
EPM relay photocells | With Standby disabled and without photocell testing, power the TX transmitter and RX receiver from terminal 4 (+24 V DC) and terminal 3 (−). Connect the voltage-free C–NC contact of the receiver between 4 (common) and the relevant input 8/PHOTO, 9/PHOTO1 or 10/PHOTO2. The contact has no +/− polarity. The AUX inputs must be configured for relay photocells; in limit-switch mode they have a different function. |
EPM with Standby enabled | According to the MCA5R30 wiring diagram, power both TX and RX between terminal 4 (+24 V DC) and terminal 5 (OutSTB, switched return line). On EPM photocells, 1 = +, 2 = return line. OutSTB is 24 V, max. 4 W and switches off in Standby; do not use terminal 5 as a permanent negative. Connect the RX C–NC contact between terminal 4 and the corresponding PHOTO input. |
EPM with photocell test | Wire according to the photocell test diagram: TX 1 → 4 (+24 V DC), TX 2 → 5 (OutSTB). The receiver is powered continuously: RX 1 → 4 (+), RX 2 → 3 (−). The RX C–NC contact remains connected between terminal 4 and the corresponding PHOTO input. Do not overload OutSTB or use it simultaneously for another load; after wiring, perform the learning procedure and test the safety function. |
BlueBUS photocells | Compatible EPMB connect using two wires to BlueBUS terminals 6 and 7. + and − are not polarity-sensitive. Set the address and run device learning whenever an element is added or removed. |
STOP and command contacts | Voltage-free input 12/STOP accepts NO, NC or 8.2 kΩ, depending on the connected device; the state is learned. 13/SbS, 14/OPEN and 15/CLOSE use an NO contact connected to terminal 4 (common). These contacts have no +/− polarity; do not apply an external voltage to the inputs. The same applies to a key switch relay or an external receiver. |
ELAC warning light | NICE ELAC connect to the FLASH output intended for a self-flashing lamp: switched 120/250 V AC, max. 21 W. This is a mains output; it has no +/− polarity.. Do not confuse it with the 24 V accessory terminals. |
Electric lock | Terminals 1–2 / EL: 12 V AC, max. 15 VA. The AC output has no +/− polarity; check the lock specifications. |
Radio receiver | OXIBD is installed in the SMconnector; do not use power terminals 3/4 or BlueBUS for it. Connect the antenna as specified for the receiver, not according to the motor terminals. |
If AUX inputs 8–11 are used for limit switches, their function differs from that of the PHOTO inputs. If you change the photocells or wiring, repeat the relevant learning procedure and test the gate’s stopping and response. For detailed instructions, see the MC800 control unit manual.

Compatible accessories for the NICE Toona TO5016P operator
Choose accessories based on the actual control unit, its inputs and outputs, and its radio receiver:
| What | Why | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Control unit | Motor electronics; choose the manual for the board actually installed. |
|
| Warning light | Signals movement. Only models specified by the manufacturer as having an antenna include one. The choice depends on the control unit’s output. |
Choose another warning light based on the voltage and load capacity of the output on the actual control unit. |
| Photocells | Monitor the beam path and send a signal to the control unit. The gate’s response depends on the wiring and settings; test the complete system after installation. | |
| Remote control | Choose the remote control based on the receiver and coding installed in the control unit. ON3EBD is for OXIBD, and ON3ELR is for OXILR. | |
| Receiver | The radio receiver must support the remote control's coding; smart home interfaces have different functions. |
|
| Antenna | Improves receiver reception when correctly positioned and connected. | |
| Keypad | Code-operated control. A BlueBUS keypad requires a control board that supports command devices. | |
| Key switch | Control via a suitable command input on the control unit. | |
| Card readers | ETPB requires the control board to support command devices on BlueBUS. |
|
| Electric locks | Secures the gate leaf; check the lock's control method and voltage against the control unit and installation. |
|
Manual drive release
Release or engage the drive only when the gate leaf is stationary. If the gate has an electric lock, unlock it first. In the event of a fault, disconnect the power supply.
- Slide back the protective cover, insert the supplied key and turn it clockwise.
- Lift the release lever and move the gate leaf manually.
- To re-engage the drive, lower the lever, turn the key counterclockwise, remove it and close the cover.
Before restarting, check that the drive is engaged and that nobody is in the gate's path.
Inspection and maintenance
Have the drive inspected by a qualified technician at least every 6 months; more frequent inspections may be necessary with intensive use. With the power disconnected, a technician will check the mounting, corrosion, wear and lubrication of the lead screw and guide nut, then test the movement and safety devices. If the gate behaves unusually, do not attempt repairs yourself; contact the installer.
