Description of NICE Moonclever MC424LR10 - control unit for 24V swing gate operators in the Wingo range
Control unit NICE MC424LR10 is replaced by a fully compatible newer model NICE MC424LR30.
NICE Moonclever MC424LR10 is a control unit for automating single-leaf, or double-leaf gates. Operators compatible with it must have a 24Vdc.
- The control unit synchronously opens and closes (and stops) a double-leaf gate; it can also operate a single-leaf gate motor.
- Suitable for gates that open inwards or outwards.
- Wireless remote control remote control (with antenna up to 150–200 m).
- The gate can also be operated by wire using a push button, video intercom, or a host of other accessories (discover all the ways to open your gate).
- Safe operation thanks to:
- the option to connect photocells that protect the passage with an infrared beam. If the beam is interrupted, the gate stops and starts opening (or closing, or stops),
- as well as built-in sensitivity to mechanical obstacles: if the gate hits an object or person, the motors stop pushing and reverse direction,
- and, last but not least, the safe, low-voltage 24 V supply for the motors and accessories.
- With a connected backup battery the gate can complete up to 10 cycles during a power outage.
- With a connected electric lock the gate is automatically locked in the closed position, preventing the leaves from flexing—especially useful for leaves longer than 3 m.
- At the press of a button, the control unit moves the motors between the fully open and fully closed positions and stores the end positions in memory.
- Option to reset to factory settings (remote controls are erased separately).
Compatible only with the specifically listed swing gate operators:
The MC424LR10 control unit includes MCA2R10 control board, which is housed in a standard plastic enclosure Moonclever. It has a built-in radio receiver and also includes an SM connector for connecting an additional radio receiver (SMXI, OXI, ...) from remote controls (Flor, Era Flor, Era One, Era Inti, ...).
Thanks to 24V it is also suitable for the NICE Solemyo solar system, which provides power in locations without access to an electricity supply. It is also possible to power the control unit using a NICE PS124 backup battery, which allows several gate opening and closing cycles for a few hours after a power outage. When standby mode is enabled, the control unit with a connected radio receiver uses just 2 W (when powered by a PS124 battery, or the Solemyo solar system, consumption is just 0.1 W).
Diagnostics using a diagnostic LED.
After automatically assessing the gate leaf length, the acceleration and deceleration intervals for opening and closing are set. It is also possible to set force, speed, pedestrian opening etc. see programming the drive control unit. Obstacle detection throughout the gate leaf's movement ensures safe motor operation.
NICE Moonclever MC424LR10 control unit is suitable for the climate conditions in Slovakia and meets all European safety standards.

The wiring to the control unit terminal blocks can be configured in three main ways:
| With standby mode | Without standby mode | |
|---|---|---|
| Without PHOTOTEST | With PHOTOTEST | |
![]() |
![]() |

| One minute after the last operation, the control unit switches to energy-saving mode and turns off all inputs and outputs. Activation of standby mode is indicated by the OK LED (LED P1), which flashes more slowly (once every 4 seconds) than usual (once per second). Standby mode is required when connecting the NICE Solemyo solar system and also when connecting the NICE PS124 backup battery. | Wiring without standby mode and without PHOTOTEST. The device draws the standard amount of power, and an operation will start even if one of the safety photocells fails. | PHOTOTEST checks that the FOTO, FOTO1 and FOTO2 photocells are working correctly before an operation starts (i.e. each photocell is powered separately). If any photocell is not working properly, the operation will not start. If any of the photocells are not used, the terminal must be connected to input no. 8 (common input). |
Wiring with standby mode is standard; it is disabled only when wiring with PHOTOTEST. Either standby mode or PHOTOTEST can be enabled, or neither.

Key switch wiring
Control unit NICE Moonclever MC424L is compatible with all key switches in our range. Wiring can be carried out in at least two standard ways:
| STOP and Step-by-step | Step-by-step and auxiliary input |
|---|---|
![]() |
![]() |
| Turning the key to the left immediately stops gate movement. Turning it to the right steps through gate movement. Note: if you want to enable standby mode, connect ALT to terminal no. 8 instead of terminal no. 11. |
Turning the key to the left executes the command programmed for the auxiliary input (partial opening of one gate leaf, partial opening of both gate leaves, open, close, execution PHOTO2). Turning it to the right steps through gate movement. |
STOP input wiring
Control unit NICE Moonclever MC424L can be programmed to recognize the STOP input in two ways:
- Normally closed contacts (NC) - devices that open the contact when triggered, thereby instructing the control unit to stop the gate
- Devices with a constant resistance of 8.2 kΩ? (e.g. safety edges) - the control unit monitors the resistance and stops the gate if the resistance deviates from the standard value. In this way, normally closed contacts (NC), normally open contacts (NO), and devices with a constant resistance of 8.2 kΩ? can be combined (e.g. safety edges) as shown in the following table:

S.C.A. input wiring – open gate indicator or electric lock
For this input, two options can be programmed for its behavior:
| 1. Open gate indicator | 2. Electric lock |
|---|---|
![]() |
![]() |
| The bulb connected to the S.C.A. input flashes slowly while the gate is opening and quickly while it is closing. The bulb stays on while the gate is open and turns off when the gate is closed. The behavior can be set. | At the same time, each time the gate opens, a signal is sent for three seconds to the electric lock to release it. |
Control unit fuses
The drive contains two fuses: one for the power supply (type: T 1A 250V) and one for the control unit (type F 2A 250V).

Coming soon.
Starting up the control unit
After connecting the control unit to the mains, all the LEDs should flash quickly for a few seconds, after which the following state should be reached:
- Voltage approx. 30 Vdc (when using the backup battery 24 Vdc) at inputs 9-10.
- P1 LED flashes at one-second intervals. If an input has changed, the LED will flash quickly twice in succession.
- The LEDs for normally closed contacts (NC) will be on, and those for normally open contacts will be off; see the illustration:

The LEDs will light according to the following key:
Input Input type LED status STOP STOP NC L1 on Constant resistance 8.2 kΩ? L1 on PHOTO NC L2 on PHOTO1 NC L3 on Step-by-step NO L4 offon AUX NO - Partial opening I. L5 offon NO - Partial opening II. L5 offon NO - Open L5 offon NO - Close L5 offon NC - PHOTO2 active L5 on - The individual LEDs should turn on and off as the status of the devices connected to them changes.
- After pressing the P2 button both motors should perform a short opening movement, with the primary leaf moving first. Press the P2 button again to stop the movement. If the leaves do not start opening but remain stationary or start closing, the motor polarity must be reversed. If the secondary leaf moves first, set the jumper as shown in the illustration:
Primary leaf, motor M2 Primary leaf, motor M1

Gate leaf travel assessment
For the gate to operate correctly (specifically, to calculate the acceleration and deceleration travel distances and partial opening), the control unit must determine the length of the gate leaves’ opening arc itself. During this operation, the actuators move the gates from stop to stop and determine the length of the gate opening travel.
Note: If you have already completed the gate leaf travel assessment, you must clear the control unit’s memory.
Before assessing gate leaf travel, check that the devices connected to the inputs STOP, PHOTO and PHOTO1 are working correctly and connected properly. If any of them is activated during the assessment, the process must be repeated. Ideally, the gate leaves should be about halfway open. To achieve this, disengage the actuators, move the leaves manually to a half-open position, then re-engage the actuators. After engaging the motor, always move the leaf slightly by hand so the motor engages fully. In principle, however, it does not matter what position the leaves are in before the assessment.
Initial start-up of the control unit (or assessment after a reset)
- Set/check the actuator model selector switches according to Table 2.6 in the control unit manual.
Note: i.e. motor WG2024: 1-up, 2-down, 3-up, 4-up; WG3524: 1-down, 2-down, 3-up, 4-up; TOO3024: 1-up, 2-down, 3-down, 4-up; TOO4524: 1-down, 2-down, 3-down, 4-up; unspecified model: 1-down, 2-up, 3-up, 4-up - Manually disengage the leaves and move them to an intermediate position (open to approx. 45°), re-engage the actuators, and pull the leaves slightly so the motors engage.
- On the control unit, press and hold the second (STOP/SET) and third (CLOSE) buttons simultaneously; release them when the leaves start moving.
- The leaves will perform the following sequence (the leaf travel assessment can be interrupted at any time by pressing the STOP button):
- Both leaves open slightly.
Note: If they move in the opposite direction, i.e. close slightly, interrupt the manoeuvre by pressing STOP, disconnect the control unit from the power supply, and reverse the polarity on both motors. If one leaf starts opening and the other closing, reverse the polarity only on the motor that started closing. Reversing the polarity means swapping the wires between the + (positive) and - (negative) terminals in the three-terminal motor connection for that motor. - The lower leaf closes fully.
Note: If the wrong leaf starts moving (i.e. the upper one), interrupt the manoeuvre by pressing STOP, disconnect the control unit from the power supply, and swap the complete M1 and M2 motor terminal blocks. - The upper leaf closes fully.
- The upper leaf starts opening, followed shortly by the lower leaf.
Note: If the delay is too short, it can be changed in the programming settings; see Chapter 5.2.2, LED L6 “Leaf delay”. - Both leaves open fully.
- The lower leaf starts closing, followed shortly by the upper leaf.
- The leaves close fully, and the control unit stores their end positions in memory.
- Done.
All the phases listed above must run one after another without any intervention from you. If any phase does not proceed correctly, stop it by pressing button P1 and, if necessary, adjust the settings and repeat the process.
Programming the actuator control unit
Control unit MC424L allows you to program several functions, either by enabling/disabling a function using Level I programming, or by setting a preset parameter using Level II programming.
Programming may look a little awkward and confusing at first, but once you understand two basic principles, you’ll quickly find your way around the menu with a little imagination.
The basic idea is to understand that programming is done using three buttons (buttons P1, P2 and P3) and their corresponding LEDs (LEDs P1, P2 and P3), as well as the indicator LEDs L1, L2, L3, L4 and L5.
The functions of the individual buttons and the LED indicators depend on the programming level you are in.
MCA2 control unit has three buttons for operating and programming the actuator:
![]() |
Button |
|---|---|
| P1 | |
| P2 | |
| P3 |
The control unit allows you to program 1 direct function and 10 functions that can be enabled or disabled and 5 adjustable functions (of which the AUX auxiliary input has 5 additional functions that can be enabled or disabled):
Direct function
There is one direct function, namely setting the gate travel speed which is switched in normal operating mode (i.e. not in programming mode) by pressing button P3:
| Function | On (P3 LED lit) | Off (P3 LED unlit) |
|---|---|---|
| Travel speed | fast speed (default) | slow speed |
Functions that can be enabled
There are 10 functions that can be enabled, and they are set in Level I programming. (default values are shown in bold):
| Function | On (LED lit) | Off (LED unlit) |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic closing | After the set pause duration the gate starts closing automatically. | The gate moves only when a command is given by remote control, by key switch, button, etc. |
| Condominium | This is useful when several users operate the actuator and their commands could conflict; for example, one person starts opening the gate while another also wants to open it, but because the gate is already opening, it starts closing, and so on. So, after the first open command, all other commands are ignored until the gate is fully open. | Gate operation is controlled in step-by-step mode: Open > Stop > Close > Stop > Open |
| Pre-flashing | The warning light flashes for 3 seconds before the gate starts moving. | The gate starts moving immediately, at the same time as the warning light starts flashing. |
| Close after photocell interruption | This is useful only when automatic closing. After passing through the photocells (i.e. the photocell beam is interrupted and then restored), the gate starts closing after just 4 seconds, for example after a vehicle has passed through. | The gate starts closing only after the set pause duration automatic closing. |
| Secondary leaf delay | Sets whether the secondary leaf starts moving with a delay. This is useful when one leaf could scrape against the other while moving. Also when using an electric lock. The delay can be set as a percentage in Level II programming. | Both leaves start moving at the same time. |
| Standby mode/Phototest |
Activates the output on terminal no. 8: enabled standby mode, or enabled phototest. Only one function can be active at a time. Select which one to use by following the appropriate wiring diagram. |
Deactivates the output on terminal no. 8: standby mode disabled and phototest disabled. |
| Gate-open indicator/Electric lock | The output on terminals 6–7 will operate as an electric lock, meaning the lock will release during the first three seconds of gate opening. | The output on terminals 6–7 will operate as a gate-open indicator. The flashing mode can be set; see Level I programming. Gate-open indicator flashing pattern |
| Resistive STOP input | The connection between the Common input and the STOP input will be set to a fixed resistance of 8.2 kΩ (±25%) for, e.g., safety edges. For more information, see STOP input. | You can connect to the STOP input normally closed (NC) devices that immediately stop the gate when the circuit opens. |
| Heavy gate | The operators will treat the gate as heavy, meaning the control unit will adjust acceleration and deceleration accordingly. | The control unit will treat the gate as light. |
| Gate-open indicator flashing pattern | The bulb connected to the S.C.A. input flashes irregularly as the gate opens: the closer the gate is to fully open, the faster it flashes; the closer it is to closed, the slower it flashes. | The bulb connected to the S.C.A. input flashes slowly while the gate opens and quickly while it closes. The bulb is lit when the gate is open and off when the gate is closed. |
Adjustable functions
There are 5 adjustable functions (the default values are shown in bold):
| L1 on | L2 on | L3 on | L4 on | L5 on | none on |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pause time – Sets how long the gate stays open before closing. Only relevant when automatic closing. | |||||
| 5 seconds | 10 seconds | 20 seconds | 40 seconds | 80 seconds | – |
| AUX input – Enables or disables 5 additional functions. | |||||
| Partial opening I – opens the primary leaf fully on its own | Partial opening II – opens both leaves halfway | Open only – cycles through the commands Open > Stop > Open | Close only – cycles through the commands Close > Stop > Close | FOTO2 photocells – activates the photocell function FOTO2 | The AUX input (terminal no. 16) is not used |
| Motor cut-off after closing – After reaching the closed end stop, the motor continues pushing briefly to ensure the gate closes fully. This function sets the reverse-run time so the motor does not keep pushing against the leaves while the gate is closed. | |||||
| no cut-off | 0.3 seconds | 0.7 seconds | 1.3 seconds | 2 seconds | – |
| Motor force – The motors are sensitive to friction, wind and fluctuations in the mains supply. As a result, these factors can cause them to detect an obstacle when there isn't one. Increasing the force setting eliminates this risk. | |||||
| Low force | Lower force | Medium force | Higher force | High force | Maximum force |
| Second leaf delay – Sets the secondary leaf delay as a percentage. The percentage is calculated from the leaf's standard travel distance. | |||||
| 5% | 10% | 20% | 30% | 40% | – |
Level I programming.
The control unit must be in normal mode. Check this by confirming that the P1 LED flashes slowly and LED P3 is off.
You can then access Level I programming by pressing and holding by pressing and holding buttons P1+P2 for 3 seconds until all the LEDs flash. LED P1 stops flashing and stays lit. Congratulations, you are now in Level I programming. on the “Screen I". ”. To access “Screen II”, press button P3 to return to “ Screen I”". . You can tell which “screen” you are on by the status of LED P3, see the table.
| Screen I | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LED P1 is lit, LED P3 is off | ||||
| L1 | L2 | L3 | L4 | L5 |
| Automatic closing | Condominium | Pre-flashing | Close after photocell interruption | Secondary leaf delay |
| Screen II | ||||
| LED P1 is lit, and LED P3 is lit too | ||||
| L1 | L2 | L3 | L4 | L5 |
| Standby mode/Phototest | Open gate indicator/Electric lock | Resistive STOP input | Heavy gate | Open gate indicator flashing interval |
By pressing button P1 you move along the LEDs toward the right. When you reach the fifth LED L5, you start again from the first LED L1, i.e. you cycle through the selections. The currently lit LED will flash. If the flashing is short, the function is inactive, if the flashing is longer , the function is active. To switch between short and long flashes, press once button P2.
Once you have set all the values to the desired flashing pattern (and thus activated or deactivated the function), pressing and holding buttons P1+P2 for 3 seconds saves the programming and returns you to normal mode.
Alternatively, if you are satisfied with everything and do not want to change anything, or are returning from Level II programming, or simply want to exit programming without saving, simply press and hold button P1 for 3 seconds.
You can also enter Level II programming. by pressing and holding button P2 for 3 seconds. First, however, you must select the function whose parameter you want to change.
Programming Level II.
The prerequisite is that the control unit is in Level I programming on “Screen I”, which you can verify by checking that LED P1 is lit and LED P3 is off.
Select the function you want to change:
| L1 | L2 | L3 | L4 | L5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pause duration | AUX input | Motor shutdown after closing | Motor force | Second leaf delay |
Move to the desired LED by repeatedly pressing once button P1, as in Level I programming. You can then access Level II programming by pressing and holding by pressing and holding button P2 for 3 seconds. LED P1 stops lighting up and starts flashing rapidly. Hooray, you're in Level II programming.
By repeatedly pressing button P2 once, you can select the parameter value you want to set, then press button P1 once to return to Level I programming.
To save, you must also press and hold the buttons P1+P2 for 3 seconds (while in Level I programming).).
To exit without saving, press and hold 3 seconds, but only button P1.
It's not that complicated, is it? The key is to understand that although you are still looking at 5 LEDs and 3 buttons, the LED indicators P1 and P2 tell you where you currently are. The table below may help show the possible states:
| LED P1 | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| On | Flashing | Flashing rapidly | ||
| LED P3 |
Off | Level I programming. "Screen I" |

Special functions of the control unit
Clearing the memory (resetting) the NICE MC424LR10 control unit
Note: This procedure clears only the control unit's memory; the remote controls stored in it will remain saved.
- Press and hold the first (OPEN) and second (CLOSE) buttons simultaneously
- When all the L1..L8 LEDs start flashing (after approx. 3-4 seconds), release them
- Wait 5 seconds; the control unit will then be restored to factory settings.
To check that the memory has been cleared correctly, disconnect the control unit from the mains (or remove the F1 power fuse) and wait until all the LEDs go out. After reconnecting it to the mains, if the memory has been completely cleared, all the LEDs should flash for approximately six seconds. If the LEDs flashed for only three seconds, the memory probably was not cleared successfully and the procedure must be repeated.
Troubleshooting the drive
If anything is unclear or you have any other problem, feel free to contact our technical support for NICE drives.
Depending on the nature of the problem
During installation (or if the drive malfunctions), you may encounter one of the following problems:
|
Problem |
Possible solution |
|---|---|
|
No LED is lit |
Check whether the control unit is receiving power. You can check this by measuring the voltage at inputs 9-10 on the terminal block; it should be approx. 30Vdc, or 24Vdc when powered by a battery. Check both fuses and, if necessary, replace them with new ones of the same rating. |
|
LED P1 flashes regularly, but the status of LEDs L1 to L5 does not match the connected devices |
Disconnect the control unit from the mains briefly (or remove the F1 power fuse) and wait until all the LEDs go out; you may be stuck in programming mode. Then check all device connections at inputs 11 to 16. You can disconnect them all and reconnect them one by one to identify the issue. |
|
LED P1 flashes every 4 seconds |
The control unit is in standby mode |
|
The gate leaf movement learning phase will not start |
The gate leaf movement learning phase starts only if it has not already been completed, or if the memory has been cleared. If the gate movement has been learned incorrectly, you will first need to erase the memory. |
|
The leaf movement learning has never been carried out and yet it will not start, or it behaves abnormally |
First, check that all connected devices and safety devices are working correctly. Make sure that no device is activated while the gate leaf movement is being learned. Before starting the learning procedure, the contact LEDs must be lit correctly and the P1 LED must flash once per second. |

The leaf movement learning was completed correctly, but the manoeuvre does not start |
Check that the safety device LEDs FOTO, FOTO1 and possibly FOTO2 (if connected), as well as the LEDs for the Step-by-step and AUX auxiliary input devices are on while a movement command is active. If the FOTOTEST function is enabled but the photocells are not working correctly, the diagnostic LED will flash 4 times. |
|
The gate moves, but stops while moving and starts moving in the opposite direction |
I. The photocells are being triggered. There are several possibilities:
Check the photocell wiring and the corresponding LEDs. II. The second possibility is that the gate is too heavy for the operator, or that it is being obstructed by strong wind. In this case, the operator detects increased current draw and interprets the situation as an obstruction (the gate can also be stopped by hand). The diagnostic LED flashes once if motor M1 detected the obstruction, and twice if motor M2 detected it. There are two solutions: 1. Enable the heavy gate setting: First level (P1 LED lit): second part (P3 LED lit)
Activate LED L4 Heavy gates
2. Set the ammeter-based sensitivity (i.e. motor force) to minimum sensitivity (i.e. maximum force):
Second level
For the parameter Current sensitivity (motor force) set it to All LEDs off: level 6 (maximum current sensitivity)
