Description of NICE Hyppo 7100 HY7124 - actuator for double-leaf folding gates
Warning!
For the swing gate operator NICE Hyppo HY7124 with control unit version R30 (MC842HR30) to connect the backup power supply PS124 or PS324 a cable adapter must be used CABLA11.
NICE HYPPO HY7124 – folding gate operator
NICE HYPPO HY7124 is a standalone electromechanical motor with a telescopic arm for a folding gate. The motor operates on 24 V DC and is non-reversible. It requires a separate control unit, power supply and safety devices. In the event of a power failure, it can be released with a key.
When to choose this operator
The HY7124 is designed for a folding-gate configuration with a telescopic arm. Before choosing an operator, check the dimensions and weight of each section, the position of the vertical hinges, resistance to movement, clearance for folding, and the motor mounting method.
| Folding gate section length | Maximum 1,500 mm per section, as shown in the installation diagram. |
|---|---|
| Weight and length | The maximum weight is 200 kg, but the permitted weight decreases as the length increases. At a length of 1.5 m, the curve is below 150 kg. |
| Duty cycle | 80%; suitability for a particular operating intensity must be assessed for the complete system. |
1.5 m and 200 kg are not a permitted combination at the same time. In the graph, the horizontal axis shows section length in metres and the vertical axis shows weight in kilograms; the area above the curve marked “No” is not permitted. This value does not indicate the capacity of the entire gate opening or the combined weight of all sections. For a fully infilled gate exposed to wind, the installer must assess the load on the entire gate. The duty-cycle percentage is not the number of openings per hour.
How a folding gate works
In the configuration shown, one motor moves one pair of folding sections. The motor is mounted on the first section of the folding pair; the telescopic arm links the mechanism to the second section. A gate with two folding halves requires two motors and a suitable shared control unit. Do not confuse the number of sections with the number of motors.

Standalone motor and control unit
This product page is for a standalone HY7124 motor with telescopic arm. The control unit is not built into the motor. Choose the control unit, safety devices, receiver and controls to suit the specific system. Check availability and included equipment before ordering.
| Model | Motor and sensing | Suitable current control units |
|---|---|---|
| HYPPO HY7124 | 24 V DC; magnetic encoder. | MC824HR30 / MCA1R30 |
The wiring and initial setup instructions below apply to the MC824HR30 / MCA1R30. For an existing automation system, always follow the instructions for the control board actually installed. The motor voltage and the control unit's mains supply are separate circuits.
For an older MC824H/MC824HR10, use its own manual. The current MC824HR30 has its own procedures and backup power requirements. The MC824L is not a replacement for the HY7124 motor with encoder.
Installing the telescopic operator
Installation, electrical connections and safety checks must be carried out by a qualified technician. Before starting work, disconnect the mains and any backup power supply, and secure the gate sections against unintended movement.
- Check that both sections and the hinges are secure. The complete folding pair must move smoothly by hand throughout its full travel, without sticking or excessive play.
- Fit sturdy mechanical stops for the open and closed positions, as required by the chosen configuration and the control unit's learning procedure.
- Assess potential pinch points at the end and centre hinges, between the folding sections, and around the telescopic arm. The positioning of protective devices must take the gate's entire movement into account.
- The motor, arm, cables and manual release must not strike the frame, wall or other section. Mount them on a load-bearing part of the structure.
Folding-section dimensions and mounting points
| Both sections shown | Each up to 1,500 mm; this is not the permitted length of a single rigid gate leaf. |
|---|---|
| Dimension at the centre hinge on the motor side | Max. 200 mm, in the position shown in the diagram. |
| Dimension at the telescopic arm mounting point | Min. 150 mm, in the position shown in the diagram. |
The 200 and 150 mm values apply to specific locations in the drawing. They are neither the post cross-section nor a universal distance from the motor to the edge. During installation, follow the geometry shown for the telescopic arm and folding sections.
Mounting plate and telescopic arm
- Determine whether to install on the left or right viewed from the inside. Before fastening, assess the full movement of both sections.
- Position the motor mounting plate A and the front bracket B position them according to the folding gate drawing. Here, A/B identify the mounting parts, not the dimensions in the articulated arm table.
- Bolt the motor to the mounting plate. To adapt it for the required side, the plate can be rotated 180° as shown in the installation diagram.
- Assemble the telescopic arm with washers and fasteners as shown in the drawing. Lubricate the screws before assembly as instructed.
- With the motor released, manually test the full travel. Correct minor alignment deviations using the slots, then fully tighten the fasteners.
Cover and cables
The cable run to the motor on the moving section must remain protected even when the gate is fully folded. Allow sufficient cable slack and strain relief; the cable must not catch on a hinge or arm. After completing the adjustments, secure the cover and handle and check the cable glands.
Manual release
- Stop the automation, disconnect the power supply, and secure the folding sections against unintended movement.
- Slide the lock cover upwards, insert the key, and turn it clockwise.
- Turn the handle as shown, then move the gate manually. Keep your hands clear of the hinges and the gap between the folding sections.
- Before operating the gate automatically, return the handle to the vertical locked position, check that the drive is engaged, remove the key, and close the lock cover.
If there is no alternative access, arrange for external release during installation. NICE KIO with KA1 cable select the appropriate option for the specific installation; test the complete assembly before handover.
Accessories for the selected control unit
The motor alone does not replace the control unit or safety devices. Photocell and safety-edge placement must also take account of the folding sections and the space between them.
| Component | Selection | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Control unit | MC824HR30 | Separate control for one or two motors; choose according to voltage and position sensing. |
| Photocells | EPMB | BlueBUS is polarity-free; use relay-type EPM only with a control unit wiring configuration it supports. |
| Warning light | ELDC | 12 V DC FLASH for MC824HR30. |
| Backup | PSS324; CABLA11 | For MC824HR30, use the current PSS324; the older PS324 uses CABLA11 and Standby OFF. |
| Receiver and remote controls | OXIBD, MYGO4 | Plug-in SM receiver; the remote control must be compatible with the receiver's coding. |
| Key switch | EKS | Volt-free C–NO contact to the command input; do not apply an external voltage. |
| Electric lock | PLA10, PLA11 | Use with a suitable locking design; ELS output: 12 V AC, max. 15 VA. |
| External release | KIO + KA1 | Access to the manual release during a power outage. |
Wiring and electrical connections
Route and protect mains wiring, motor cables, and low-voltage signals according to the voltage and environment. The supply to the control unit comprises L, N, and PE; protect it with suitable overcurrent protection and a device for complete disconnection. Secure the cables with cable glands and strain relief.
| Circuit | Cable | Application |
|---|---|---|
| Supply to control unit | 3 × 1.5 mm² | Up to 30 m; L, N, and PE. For a longer supply run, use 3 × 2.5 mm² and protective earthing at the automation system as specified in the control unit instructions. |
| Motor | 3 × 1.5 mm² | Up to 10 m; two motor power conductors and a PE protective conductor. |
| Encoder | 2 × 1 mm² | Up to 10 m, polarity-free; for the corresponding motor. |
| BlueBUS | 2 × 0.5 mm² | Up to 20 m; for runs over 20 m and up to 40 m, use 2 × 1 mm². |
| Warning light | 2 × 0.5 mm² | Up to 20 m, low-voltage FLASH. |
| Electric lock | 2 × 1 mm² | Up to 10 m; output: 12 V AC / max. 15 VA. |
| Key switch | 4 × 0.5 mm² | Up to 50 m; alternatively, two 2 × 0.5 mm² cables. |
| Antenna | RG58 | Up to 20 m; less than 5 m is recommended. |
The installer must check the cross-section and route based on the cable lengths and the instructions for the installed control unit.
Motor and control unit wiring
HY7124 is for the MC824H 24 V DC motor output, not the 230 V mains supply. The procedure below applies to the MC824HR30 with an MCA1R30 board. The middle terminal of the three-pole M1 or M2 output is protective earth (PE); the two outer terminals are for the motor. Do not confuse PE with a motor wire or the 24 V auxiliary negative. The two encoder wires are not polarity-sensitive; connect them to the corresponding ENC terminal. MC824L uses different motors.
| One folding leaf | Motor to M2, encoder to ENC2; M1 and ENC1 remain unused. |
|---|---|
| Two folding leaves | M2 opens first; M1 closes first. Connect the M1 encoder to ENC1 and the M2 encoder to ENC2. |
| Motor selector | Before teaching the limits, set DIP 1 = ON; DIP 2–12 = OFF for HY7124. Do not use any other combination. |
Use the model-specific setting for HY7124; the programmer may show this group as MB4024. The correct switch positions for HY7124 are what matter.
Accessory terminals and polarity
| Auxiliary power supply | Left terminal of the SbS pair = +; right terminal of the STOP pair = −, as shown in the detail below. 24 V DC −30% / +50%, total max. 200 mA. Power remains on in Standby. These are the power supply terminals shown, not arbitrary signal contacts. |
|---|---|
| BlueBUS | Two parallel wires carry both power and data; no +/− polarity. |
| ENC1 / ENC2 | Encoders for the corresponding motors; not polarity-sensitive. |
| FLASH | 12 V DC warning light, max. 21 W; for example, ELDC. Before connecting, check the +/− markings on the specific output and warning light. |
| ELS | Electric lock 12 V AC, max. 15 VA; AC has no +/− polarity. |
| OGI | Open gate indicator: 24 V DC (−30% / +50%), max. 4 W. The mode depends on the settings; follow the markings on the installed output. |
| SbS / Open / Close | Potential-free NO contacts for the corresponding terminal pairs: step-by-step, open only or close only. The contacts are not polarity-sensitive; do not apply an external voltage to them. |
| STOP | Learned safety input: NO, NC or 8.2 kΩ. Potential-free contacts are not polarity-sensitive; wiring must match the safety devices. |
For a different board or terminal layout, refer to the instructions for the installed unit. Detailed MC824HR30 wiring.
Backup power during a mains failure
MC824HR30 supports PSS324. Disconnect the mains and battery before connecting, and use the designated connector. If you are keeping the older PS324, you need CABLA11 cable and Standby must be OFF. The number of operating cycles depends on the charge level and gate load. Backup power does not replace correct manual release. Complete backup power connection procedure.
Photocells and safety inputs
Position the photocells according to the movement of the folding leaves and the gate’s hazards. Align TX/RX correctly. Protecting the passage does not replace protection at pinch points around the hinge and arm.
MC824H uses BlueBUS. EPMB, EPLB, EPSB, EPMORB and F210B connect them in parallel using two wires, without regard to polarity. TX/RX units in the same pair must have the same address; each pair must have an address different from the others. After changing the devices, repeat the learning procedure.
PHOTO/PHOTO II protect during closing; PHOTO 1/PHOTO 1 II intervene during both opening and closing. PHOTO 2/PHOTO 2 II protect during opening. PHOTO 3 is not permitted. For the exact jumpers and responses, see the addressing table.
Test each pair during both opening and closing, as well as STOP and any safety edge. Do not bypass a safety device to make the gate move.
Initial start-up and learning
The installer must carry out these steps after completing the mechanical and electrical checks. Secure the motor in automatic mode and check the stops, clear travel path and M1/M2. Be ready to stop the gate during its first movement.
On the MCA1R30, set DIP 1 to ON and all the others to OFF for HY7124, then connect the encoder.
After switching on the power, BlueBUS must flash approximately once per second, the LEDs on connected BlueBUS TX/RX photocells must flash, and the FLASH warning light must be off. If any check fails, disconnect the power supply and any backup power, then check the wiring before continuing.
1. Device recognition
- Press and hold Open ▲ + Stop/Set.
- Release both buttons when L1/L2 start flashing rapidly, after approximately 3 seconds.
- Wait for the process to finish. Success: STOP stays lit, L1/L2 go out. L3/L4 may flash to indicate that position learning is required.
Repeat after adding or removing a BlueBUS/STOP device. Perform the learning procedure even if no accessories are connected.
2. Automatic position learning
- Press and hold Stop/Set + Close ▼.
- Release the buttons when L3/L4 start flashing rapidly, after approximately 5 seconds.
- Watch for: M1 slowly closes to the stop, M2 slowly closes to the stop, both motors slowly open to their stops, then both motors close quickly. With a single motor, only M2 moves.
- Successful completion is confirmed when L3/L4.
If either motor opens instead of closing during the first closing movements, stop the learning procedure using the Open ▲ or Close ▼. Disconnect the power supply and any backup power, then correct the direction of the relevant motor by swapping the two outer motor wires as shown in the MC824H wiring diagram; do not change the protective earth (PE) or encoder wires. With two motors, if their sequence is incorrect, correct the M1/M2 order and their ENC1/ENC2 connections as well. Restart the learning procedure from the beginning. Activation of a photocell or STOP interrupts the procedure and L1 flashes; resolve the cause and repeat the learning procedure.
3. Testing and handover
Test full opening and closing cycles, stops, slowdowns, coordinated movement of the folding leaves, and manual release. Check every safety device, including stopping and reversing when an obstacle is detected. The installer must measure the forces and assess the complete installation. Do not set the force high to compensate for a gate that is sticking. The user must be given the instructions and shown how to release the drive safely.
Manual and mixed learning: detailed control unit procedure. Automatic learning must be completed before mixed learning.
Settings and remote controls
Set automatic closing, pause time, step-by-step operation, slowdown, and force to suit the gate. Repeat the tests after changing the force or safety functions. The full ranges, LEDs, and factory settings are listed in the control unit programming tables.
Receiver, remote control, and antenna
The motor alone does not have a built-in radio receiver. An SM receiver is installed in the control unit. NICE OXIBD also supports two-way communication ON3EBD; OXILR use with ON3ELR. With the older OXI choose transmitters based on the stored coding. The same frequency alone does not guarantee compatibility.
Connect the coaxial cable according to the receiver: directly to the receiver with OXIBD, and according to the control unit wiring diagram with OXI. Pairing and deleting remote controls. Erasing the radio memory does not reset the control board or perform position learning.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Gate does not move | Power supply, release mechanism secured, and STOP circuit. A technician must troubleshoot power supply or fuse faults with the power disconnected. |
| Motor runs, but the leaf stays still | Check that the drive is engaged and the arm is secured; return the release mechanism to the locked position. |
| Gate stops or reverses | First check manual movement and the arm's operating area, then the photocells, STOP circuit, and stops. Do not increase the force without identifying the cause. |
| Learning procedure does not complete | Motor sequence and direction, stops, and safety devices. For HY7124, also check DIP 1 and the encoders. |
| Remote control does not work, but the button does | Battery, coding, transmitter stored in the receiver, and antenna. |
| Fault after photocells are changed | Addresses and cables, then repeat device recognition. |
Flasher and LED flash codes: troubleshooting and repairs. Record the settings before resetting. Resetting the control board, erasing the receiver, and carrying out new learning are separate procedures; refer to the instructions for the installed unit.
Inspection and maintenance
Have the complete automation system inspected at least every six months; inspect it more often if it is used intensively or operates in a demanding environment, in accordance with the maintenance schedule. The technician will check the end and intermediate hinges, motor mounting, telescopic arm, stops, cable routing, release mechanism, and all safety devices. The results must be recorded in the maintenance log.
Do not go between the folding sections or into the arm's path while the gate is moving. Do not let children play near the gate, and keep remote controls out of their reach. Users should only release the drive manually when it is safe to do so and clean accessible surfaces as part of routine maintenance; repairs, electrical work, and changes to safety settings must be carried out by a technician. If a fault occurs, take the gate out of service and secure it.
