Underground operators for swing gates
An underground operator for a swing gate is ideal when:
- There is no room for an arm - a standard articulated arm, or a jointed-arm operator cannot be installed because there is, for example, a wall or fence in the way, or a wicket gate opens there.
- You want a clean look — from both outside and inside, you see only the gate itself; the operator is concealed at the bottom of the post, below the hinges.
- You want the gate to open to a wide angle — operators in the S-Fab family open the gate to 90° as standard, but can also open it to 180°. Other underground operators open to 110° as standard, but with optional accessories they can open up to 360°.
Although underground operators and foundation boxes are sold separately, they are always installed together. All underground operators have built-in mechanical stops.

Overview of underground operators
Underground operators are classified by operator family and motor technology. There are four families, named in a way similar to clothing sizes in a shop (S-Fab, M-Fab, L-Fab, Big-Fab). They differ in size and are therefore compatible with different foundation boxes, and they also differ in the maximum gate leaf length they can be fitted to. L-Fab and Big-Fab operators have the same dimensions and differ mainly in motor power.
- 24 V operators are versatile, suitable for both normal domestic use and intensive use at a business.
- 230 V versions are suitable for solid, heavy gates in windy locations.
- 24 V Hi-Speed operators are ultra-fast, opening the gate in just a few seconds. The trade-off for this speed is a lower maximum gate leaf weight.

Comparison of underground operators
All 24 V operators are compatible with the control unit NICE MC824HR10 (that is, they all have an encoder/speed sensor), except for the NICE S-Fab SFAB2024 operator (without an encoder), which is compatible with the control unit NICE MC424LR10. 230 V operators are compatible with the control unit NICE MC800. The Oltre operator is not an underground model, but it is essentially invisible, so in a way it belongs to the same category.
The stated maximum gate leaf length and weight limits are either-or (not both at the same time). Each operator has its own graph showing its operating limits, which you can find on the individual product page.
