Description of NICE Sumo SU2000V – operator for sectional/overhead doors up to 25 m², increased speed
NICE SUMO SU2000V is a high-speed shaft-mounted operator for sectional garage doors and suspended sliding gates, including those with two counter-moving leaves. It has a 24 V DC motor with a magnetic encoder, a torque of 82 Nm and a speed of 11–23.5 rpm. The maximum sectional door area is 25 m².
The SU2000V does not include a control unit. For a balanced sectional door, add the NICE DPRO924, which supplies power to the motor and controls the accessories. The 230 V AC mains supply connects to the control unit, not directly to the motor. The operator is non-reversible and is released manually using the cord release.
The encoder tracks the operator's position; the open and closed positions must be learned. The gate must have mechanical stops and be correctly balanced. The motor cannot compensate for damaged springs or a gate that moves with difficulty.

Control unit and accessories
The following wiring and setup instructions apply to the SU2000V with DPRO924 and incremental encoder. For an older installation with an A924, use its own terminals and manual; the wiring for these control units is not interchangeable.
The DPRO924 wiring, learning procedure and settings below apply to a balanced sectional door. For a suspended sliding gate, select a control unit specifically designed for this application and verify the entire chain drive assembly.
| What | Why | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Control unit | Required for the motor and safety devices; wiring. | |
| Photocells | Standard NC relay output, Phototest wiring. | |
| Warning light | A separate flashing 24 V lamp on OUT1. | |
| Radio receiver and remote control | SM socket, selection and pairing. | |
| Backup battery | Emergency power supply for the DPRO924 after programming. | |
| Drive adapter | Direct adapter or chain, depending on the installation. |
The DPRO924 does not have BlueBUS: EPMB is not a direct replacement for the relay-type EPM. The PS124 battery used with SOON operators is not a backup battery for the DPRO924.
When to choose the SUMO SU2000V
The SU2000V is suitable where a mechanically balanced sectional door needs faster movement while retaining 82 Nm of torque. The door's speed depends on the drums and gearing; the motor's rpm is not the gate speed in metres per second.
| Requirement | What it means |
|---|---|
| Area up to 25 m² | Maximum area for a sectional door. The manufacturer specifies this variant for areas of 10–25 m²; the suitability of a specific door also depends on resistance, balance and the required torque. This figure does not specify the weight or length of a suspended gate leaf. |
| Torque: 82 Nm | Assess the torque required at the shaft for the entire gate, including during start-up. |
| Speed: 11–23.5 rpm | Motor speed range; gate speed depends on the drum and any reduction gearing. |
| Duty cycle: 50% | A 50% duty cycle means intermittent operation with pauses, not continuous operation or a fixed number of cycles per hour. |
| IP44 rating | Protect the motor from flooding and unsuitable environments; the separate DPRO924 has an IP55 rating when its enclosure is properly closed. |

With these variants, higher speed means lower available torque. All three are standalone 24 V DC motors without a control unit; for a sectional door, add NICE DPRO924. Compare the required shaft torque, not just the door area or speed.
SUMO SU2000V package contents
Standalone motor with encoder, mounting bracket, drive key, mounting hardware, and cable release with control handle. DPRO924, radio receiver, photocells, and chain drive are not automatically included with the motor.
Operator installation
Installation, electrical connection, and testing must be carried out by a qualified technician. Disconnect the mains supply and backup battery before working on the unit. The door must be mechanically safe and correctly balanced, with functioning springs, tracks, and stops. The operator will not fix a door that is difficult to move.
Direct shaft mounting
The NICE SUMO SU2000V operator mounts directly onto the sectional door shaft Ø 25.4 mm. For shafts Ø 31.75 / 35 / 40 mm, use NICE CRA9. The mounting bracket is included; choose wall anchors to suit the substrate. The Ø 25.5 mm opening in the motor does not indicate a different recommended shaft diameter.
- Remove the cover, prepare the cable glands and hold the release lever in place during installation; secure it in the installation position as shown.
- Slide the motor onto the shaft, aligning the grooves. Insert the drive key and secure it against slipping out with a suitable retaining ring.
- Bolt the bracket to the operator and anchor it to the wall so that the operator remains parallel to the wall.
- Release the installation lock on the release lever, return it to the operating position, and check the cover and release mechanism.
For a steel structure, use M8 screws, grade 6.8 or A2-50. Anchoring into another substrate must safely withstand a tensile load of 1,000 N; the installer must select the anchor type to suit the structure.

Offset mounting using a chain
When there is not enough room for direct mounting, use a shaft with an 18-tooth sprocket NICE CRA1 in the operator and a sprocket on the door shaft. The drive uses a 1/2″ × 5/16″ chain NICE CRA3 (1 m) or NICE CRA4 (5 m), with a connecting link NICE CRA2. For offset mounting of the operator, use brackets NICE CRA8.
| Drive ratio | Components and result |
|---|---|
| 1 : 1 | NICE CRA1 + NICE CRA7 (18 / 18 teeth). No speed reduction. |
| 1 : 2 | NICE CRA1 + NICE CRA6 (18 / 36 teeth). The door shaft rotates more slowly; the transmitted torque and door construction must be assessed. |
The sprockets must be aligned in the same plane, the chain correctly tensioned, and protected against hands or clothing getting caught. Changing the drive ratio does not automatically change the permitted door area. The dimensions, balance, travel, and complete assembly must be assessed together.
Position the chain at least 2.4 m above the floor and out of reach; if this is not possible, fit a protective guard. Under a load of 4,000 N, the shaft carrying the sprocket must deflect no more than 2 mm.

SUMO: vertical chain drive CRA1, CRA6, or CRA7 and CRA8 brackets
Chain drive setup for a suspended sliding door
For a suspended door, the chain loop consists of a shaft with a sprocket NICE CRA1, a tensioner with return sprocket NICE CRA5, chain NICE CRA4 and connecting links NICE CRA2. Attach the door leaf to the upper or lower chain run, depending on the direction of travel. For two doors moving in opposite directions, attach one to the upper run and the other to the lower run.
This is a custom-designed chain assembly. The sectional-door area limit does not determine the permitted weight or length of a suspended door leaf. The installer must verify travel resistance, force transmission, travel path, mechanical stops, and protection against crushing hazards.

SUMO: installation of a horizontal chain loop for a suspended door
Manual release and return to motorized operation
The SU2000V uses the supplied nylon cord with a control handle, designed to release the operator from floor level; the cord run can be no longer than 6.5 m. Release only when the door is stationary and balanced.
- Pull the control handle down to position 1 as shown.
- Move the door safely by hand.
- Before operating electrically, return the release mechanism to its original locked position and check that the drive is re-engaged.

SUMO SU2000V: floor-level cable release, position 1 for manual operation
External release is available separately: NICE KA1 (6 m steel cable) and NICE KIO or NICE KIOMINI. This does not replace the required correct installation of the supplied release mechanism; the installer must adapt the guide and mechanical connection to the drive.
With a SUMO fitted with DPRO924, position synchronisation must be restored after manual movement. If the control unit was switched on during release, it will register the release. Restore synchronisation by running the gate to the stored fully closed position; until synchronisation is complete, open it by holding the command. Keep the gate under observation and do not bypass safety devices.
Wiring the SU2000V with DPRO924
Disconnect both the mains supply and PS224 before starting work. The motor cable and encoder cable are separate circuits. DPRO924 controls one SU2000V motor on a balanced sectional door.

Wiring and cable lengths
| Cable run | Cable / maximum length |
|---|---|
| Mains supply to DPRO924 | 3 × 1.5 mm² / 30 m. For longer runs, use 3 × 2.5 mm² and protective earthing at the automation unit. |
| Motor | 3 × 2.5 mm² / max. 10 m; motor wires as specified at the motor terminals, and the protective conductor as specified for the particular assembly. |
| Incremental encoder | 2 × 1 mm² / max. 10 m; run separately from the power wiring. |
| Warning light | 2 × 0.5 mm² / 20 m. |
| Photocells | 4 × 0.5 mm² / 20 m; individual branches according to the selected wiring diagram. |
| Command switch | 2 × 0.25 mm² / 20 m or 4 × 0.5 mm². |
| Antenna | RG58 / max. 10 m, 5 m recommended. |
Terminals and accessory polarity
| DPRO924 terminal | Function / wiring |
|---|---|
| MOTOR 1 / 2 / 3 | 1 and 2 – 24 V DC motor output; 3 – protective earth. The polarity at the motor output changes with the direction of movement. Do not connect 230 V mains to the motor terminals. |
| Incremental encoder | Two encoder signal wires; non-polarised. Not an auxiliary power supply. |
| GND (1) / 24 V (2) | 1 GND = negative (−), 2 24 V = positive (+); 24 V DC −30% / +50%, max. 200 mA for all accessories combined. |
| Phototest (3) | Tested positive power supply for TX: 3 = positive (+), GND 1 = negative (−); 24 V DC, max. 200 mA at the Phototest output. |
| Common / COM SBY | Positive common terminal for commands, 24 V DC. Common for SbS remains active; COM SBY for Open/Close/Photo/Photo2 is switched off in Total Stand-by mode. This is not GND. |
| SbS / Open / Close | Voltage-free NO contacts: SbS to Common, and Open and Close to COM SBY. The contacts themselves are not polarised. |
| Photo / Photo2 | Voltage-free NC photocell contact; the common terminal wiring depends on Phototest or Stand-by mode. |
| STOP Safety Edge | 8.2 kΩ resistive or OSE optical safety edge. OSE: +12 V = positive, GND = negative, SIG = signal. |
| ALT | NC safety circuit. An open contact blocks operation. |
| OUT1 / OUT2 / OUT3 | OUT1 – 24 V warning light up to 25 W, with independent flashing; OUT2/3 – voltage-free relay contacts for resistive loads up to 3 A. Do not assign fictitious +/− polarity to the OUT2/3 contact. |
| LIGHT on the cover board | 1 = negative (−), 2 = positive (+), 24 V DC, max. 5 W; cable up to 2 m. The output is not short-circuit protected. |
Terminal block directly in the SU2000V
SU2000V: 1/2 are the motor terminals, 3/4 are the encoder terminals. Connect 1/2 to the DPRO924 motor output and 3/4 to the Incremental encoder input. Note Terminal 3 on the motor is not PE. According to the SU2000V wiring diagram, the third conductor of the three-core motor cable is to be safely insulated at the motor end. Protective earthing of the DPRO924 mains supply is still mandatory.

SUMO SU2000V: motor terminals 1/2 and encoder terminals 3/4; third motor-cable conductor safely insulated
EPM photocells with Phototest
DPRO924 uses NICE EPM with a standard relay output. For the safety function, wire EPM terminals 4 COM and 5 NC; contact 3 NO is not the correct safety contact.
| Device | Power supply and contact |
|---|---|
| TX EPM | 1 = positive (+), 2 = negative (−). In Phototest mode: TX 1 → Phototest (3) DPRO924, TX 2 → GND (1) DPRO924. |
| RX EPM | 1 = positive (+), 2 = negative (−). RX 1 → 24 V (2) DPRO924, RX 2 → GND (1). RX 4 COM → 24 V (2), RX 5 NC → Photo or Photo2. Contact 4/5 is voltage-free; do not use contact 3 NO. |
| Two pairs | Assign each to the correct input. If they interfere with each other, reposition them or use suitable optical shields. EPM synchronisation via SYNC requires an AC power supply; do not use it blindly with the control unit's DC output. |

EPM: TX/RX power supply 1 (+), 2 (−), relay contacts 4 COM and 5 NC

DPRO924: RX to GND/24 V and TX to GND/Phototest
Phototest checks the photocells before movement. After wiring it, run the safety-device learning procedure. Unused Photo or Photo2 is linked to Phototest in this diagram; this does not replace the required gate protection.
Alternative: Total Stand-by
Total Stand-by is enabled via Oview; after the set time, factory-set to 1 min, it reduces power consumption by switching off the accessories. TX 1 (+), RX 1 (+) and RX 4 COM → COM SBY; TX 2 (−) and RX 2 (−) → GND (1); RX 5 NC → Photo or Photo2. Phototest is not performed with this wiring. Link unused Photo/Photo2 to COM SBY. Do not combine the two wiring diagrams.

DPRO924: separate alternative for powering photocells in Total Stand-by mode
Safety edge and safety circuit

DPRO924: resistive safety edge SIG/GND and optical OSE +12 V/SIG/GND
An active safety edge is required for semi-automatic and automatic operation of a sectional door. Automatic operation also requires photocells. In hold-to-run mode, the operator must have a clear view of the entire door; access to the controls must be restricted according to the installation location.
The 8.2 kΩ resistive safety edge connects between SIG and GND, with no polarity. Connect the optical OSE according to the markings: brown wire to +12 V, green to SIG, white to GND. If a different color code is used, follow the markings provided by the safety edge manufacturer. With this resistive interface, connect NC contacts in series with the final 8.2 kΩ resistor, and NO contacts in parallel with the resistor; the wiring must comply with the safety design. Repeat the learning procedure after making a change. The resistor must not be used to bypass required protection.
Warning beacon and status indicator
For OUT1 the specified unit is NICE ELDC with built-in flashing, 24 V, maximum 25 W. OUT1 is not an auxiliary GND/24 V pair; do not infer the polarity order from other connectors. The ELDC power supply pair itself has no +/− polarity specified in its diagram. Connect the antenna to the radio receiver using its connector.
The status indicator on the cover board is separate: LIGHT 1 (−), 2 (+), 24 V DC / 5 W. It goes out when the safety circuit is open, flashes 0.5 s ON / 0.5 s OFF in normal operation, and follows the OK indicator pattern in the event of a fault. The cable may be no longer than 2 m, and the output is not short-circuit protected.

DPRO924: LIGHT 1 (−), 2 (+) on the cover button board
Backup power and service interface
NICE PS224 connects to the designated DPRO924 battery connector only after installation and programming are complete. The number of movements during a power outage is not fixed and depends on the door and battery. Oview connects via NICE IBT4N and allows adjustment of force, sensitivity and deceleration points, as well as diagnostics. Choose accessories for the DPRO924, not the older A924.
Initial startup of DPRO924 with SUMO

DPRO924: OPEN, STOP and CLOSE buttons on the control unit cover
On the cover board, the switches enabling the OPEN and CLOSE buttons must be set to ON; STOP is always active. Before learning, the door should be approximately 50 cm above the floor, so the direction can be checked safely. The green OK indicator flashes about once per second; ALT/Photo/Photo2 must match the wiring.
1. Learning the safety devices
At least one safety device must be connected. Learn the devices and positions one after the other, without interruption.
- Set A1 to ON; A2/A3/A4 to OFF.
- Hold STOP for about 3 s until the OK indicator glows solid red; release it.
- When complete, set the switches to OFF and immediately continue by learning the incremental encoder.
2. Positions with an incremental encoder
If you do not save a custom partial-open position, the default position is 1/4 of the travel. You can change it during learning or via Oview.
- Set B2 OFF, B3 OFF; A1 ON, A2/A3/A4 OFF.
- Hold STOP for about 3 s until the indicator glows solid red, then release it.
- Press OPEN to move the door to the desired open position before the mechanical stop. Confirm by holding STOP for 3 s: one red flash.
- Press CLOSE to move the door to the fully closed position. Confirm by holding STOP for 3 s: two red flashes.
- To set a custom partial-open position, press OPEN to move the door to that point and confirm by holding STOP for 3 s: three red flashes. Otherwise, continue to the next step.
- Set A1 to OFF; set A3/A4 according to the operating mode and confirm by holding P1 for at least 2 s.
If OPEN closes the door, stop, disconnect the mains and battery, swap the motor wires at outputs 1/2, and start the learning procedure again. Do not swap the encoder pair to change the direction.
3. Learning the force settings
After setting the positions, perform full opening and closing cycles without interruption until the unit finishes alternating red/green OK flashes while moving. An interrupted cycle is not counted. During learning, the unit uses maximum force: the area must be supervised. Repeat the learning procedure after changing the speed, deceleration points or sensitivity. Carry out safety tests when finished.
The unit calculates the RA/RB deceleration points initially; they can be adjusted via Oview. Repeat force learning after changing the deceleration points.
Setting DPRO924 operating modes

DPRO924: DIP switch group A (1–4) and DIP switch group B (1–3)
Switches A and B are on the main board. After changing them, the OK indicator may flash red and green alternately and the unit may reject commands: confirm the correct configuration by pressing P1 for 2 s, or repeat the safety device learning procedure. If these functions are set via Oview, the corresponding DIP switches must be OFF.
DIP A – operation
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| A1 OFF, A2 OFF, A3 OFF, A4 OFF | Hold-to-run: movement only while a command is held. |
| A1 ON, A3/A4 OFF | Learning safety devices and positions. For SU2000V, also set A2 to OFF. |
| A1 OFF, A2 OFF, A3 OFF, A4 ON | Industrial mode: semi-automatic opening, closing with hold-to-run control. |
| A1 OFF, A2 OFF, A3 ON, A4 OFF | Semi-automatic operation after learning the positions. |
| A1 OFF, A2 OFF, A3 ON, A4 ON | Automatic closing with a stored pause time. |
| A2 ON | Reverse the absolute encoder direction; not used with the SU2000V incremental encoder. |
DIP B – sensitivity, speed and motor
| Switch | Status and meaning |
|---|---|
| B1 – sensitivity | OFF = disabled, ON = enabled. ON reduces the force applied when an obstacle is encountered; after changing it, learn the forces and perform a measurement. |
| B2 – speed adjustment | OFF = normal operation; ON = speed adjustment, OK flashes orange rapidly. |
| B3 – motor type | OFF for SU2000V with encoder. ON for a motor with electromechanical limit switches. |
Automatic closing – pause time
- After learning the positions, set A3/A4 to ON and A1/A2 to OFF.
- Press and hold P1 for at least 2 s.
- Send OPEN and wait for the gate to open fully.
- From this point, wait for the required pause, then send CLOSE. The time is saved.
To change the pause time, set A4 to OFF and confirm by holding P1 for 2 s; this cancels the previous pause time. Then set A4 to ON, confirm by holding P1 for 2 s, and repeat the opening, waiting and closing sequence.
Travel and deceleration speed
Opening, slow opening, closing and slow closing are adjusted separately. You can use Oview or the control board buttons:
- Set B2 to ON; OK flashes orange rapidly.
- Hold P1 and send OPEN or CLOSE, depending on the direction being adjusted.
- While holding P1, adjust the current section: OPEN increases the speed by 5% per press; CLOSE decreases it by 5%.. Green OK indicates a normal travel section; red indicates deceleration.
- Release P1; to adjust another movement, start again by holding it down.
- Set B2 back to OFF, complete force learning and perform the tests.
Current monitoring is disabled while P1 is held down. This adjustment is for an installer working with the gate under observation; do not use it to test the force against an obstacle.
Remote control and antenna
With a supported receiver in Advanced Mode 2, command 13 electronically unlocks the automation system. This cancels the electronic lock on the automation system; it does not mechanically release the drive. Assign the button according to the instructions for the specific receiver.
The radio receiver plugs into the SM socket with both mains power and the battery disconnected. Do not confuse the equipment supplied with a standalone drive with a complete kit: choose the receiver and transmitters to match the components actually supplied.
NICE OXIBD supports both unidirectional and bidirectional transmitters; a suitable unidirectional transmitter is the NICE MYGO4. An older installed receiver may use different coding. The same 433.92 MHz frequency alone is not enough.
In normal Mode 1, the receiver outputs are: 1 – step-by-step, 2 – partial opening, 3 – opening, 4 – closing. Mode 2 lets you assign an individual button to a selected command. For exact pairing and deletion, follow the instructions for the specific OXIBD receiver; the control unit buttons do not erase the receiver's radio memory.
For OXIBD, connect the antenna to the receiver connector according to the OXIBD antenna wiring diagram. Connect the coaxial cable's centre conductor to the signal terminal and its shield to the antenna ground. These are not the power supply +/− terminals.
DPRO924 diagnostics
After power-up, two slow flashes of the green OK light indicate a motor with an incremental encoder. One slow red flash confirms a learned 8.2 kΩ safety edge; two flashes indicate OSE. Rapid green flashing after power-up may indicate that the memory has not been learned.
| Red OK | Cause and check |
|---|---|
| 2 flashes | Photocell: obstruction, optics or relay wiring. |
| 3 flashes | Force, sensitivity or blocked encoder: check for mechanical resistance and inspect the encoder cable. |
| 4 flashes | STOP/ALT or release: secure the motor and check the safety circuit. |
| 5 flashes | Internal parameters: press STOP on the cover and wait at least 30 s. If the fault persists, contact service; alternatively, reset and run the learning procedure again. |
| 6 flashes | The permitted number of manoeuvres per hour has been exceeded: wait a few minutes for the restriction to clear. |
| 7 flashes | Internal electrical fault: press STOP, disconnect all power sources and have the control board/wiring inspected by a qualified technician. |
| 8 flashes | Continuous input command: remove the cause of the stuck contact. |
| 9 flashes | Automation system electronically locked: use command 13 via a supported receiver to unlock it; radio commands. |
| Other OK indicators | Solution |
|---|---|
| Red steady + 8 green flashes | No encoder signal. Press STOP and check the separate encoder cable. |
| Red steady + 10 green flashes | Travel time exceeded. Press STOP and check the mechanism and positions; adjust the time using Oview. |
| Red/green alternating while idle | DIP settings changed: check the configuration and confirm by holding P1 for at least 2 s. |
| Red/green alternating during movement | Force learning in progress; complete full travel cycles. |
| Rapid orange flashing | B2 is ON; complete the speed adjustment, then set B2 to OFF. |
Clearing DPRO924 memory
Resetting clears the settings, positions and learned safety devices. The plug-in radio receiver's memory is separate.
- With the gate stationary, set A1/A2/A3/A4 to ON; OK flashes orange rapidly.
- Hold STOP for about 3 s until OK stays steadily red, then release it.
- After reset, OK flashes orange rapidly. Set all A DIP switches back to OFF; OK flashes green.
- Set the correct motor type, repeat the safety device and position learning procedures, learn the forces, and perform the tests.
Gate handover checks
- With the drive released, check that the gate moves smoothly and is balanced. Manual testing requires a force of no more than 225 N. This force is neither the motor's torque nor the permitted impact force.
- After re-engaging the drive, test opening, closing and STOP; the gate must not bind or strike beyond the stored limit positions.
- Test each pair of photocells at the TX, at the RX and midway through the beam, for example with a cylinder Ø 5 cm and 30 cm long. Check the gate's actual response.
- Test the safety edge, safety circuit and emergency release. The installer must measure impact forces using a suitable measuring device; repeat the test after changing the force or sensitivity.
- Hand over the gate only after successful testing, with its identification label, release instructions and maintenance plan. Pass through only when the gate is fully open and stationary.
Drive and gate maintenance
Disconnect both the mains supply and the battery before each scheduled inspection. Check the bracket, anchors, wedge, shaft, manual release, guide components and balance; for chain drives, also check the chain tension, wear and lubrication as required. Operate the drive only with functional mechanical stops and safety devices.
For normal residential use, the manufacturer recommends a professional inspection every 6 months. For more frequent use, the installer should adjust the interval; inspect and clean the EPM photocells at least every 6 months. Repeat the tests after servicing. Spring or load-bearing cable faults must be handled by a professional, not by increasing the motor force.
