The new generation of NICE Robus sliding gate operators
The first generation of Robus operators, flagship sliding gate operators from the Italian manufacturer NICE, approached the end of its life cycle in 2025. This means that first-generation operators (codes beginning with RB*) will gradually be replaced by the second generation (codes beginning with RBS*)..
Several technical details have changed, resulting in a number of updates. However, retained also high backward compatibility with accessories from the previousaccessories from the previouspreviousprevious generation, whichsignificantlymakesit easier to replace an old operator with a new one without the need for major modifications. New generation of NICE Robus RBS operators
The new operators have a built-in completely new MCU1 control unit, which is also physically separated from the power section. This means the operator has two control units: one for the logic and wiring, and the other for the motor.
In addition to the terminals provided, the control unit can be expanded with a module, with 3 types currently available:
MLAE21 - 2x 24V inputs (factory-set to Open and Close), 1x 24V output (factory-set to OGI)
MLAE22 - 2x 24V inputs (factory-set to Open and Close), 1x 24V output (factory-set to OGI), 1x 230V output (factory-set to Lighting)
MLAE44 - 4x 24V inputs (factory-set to Open, Close, Partial Opening and Photocell), 4x 24V outputs (factory-set to OGI, Gate Closed, Radio Output 4 and Phototest)
Note: OGI is the Open Gate Indicator.
The limit switch is now inductive, meaning magnetic limit stops are fitted to the

For example, the relay photocell test can only be enabled via the app. The control unit also has abuilt-in receiver and an SM connector for a plug-in receiver , but they cannot be used at the same time. Unfortunately, when using a plug-in receiver (with an SM connector), you must first disable the built-in receiver in the programming settings. It can also be disabled using the buttons in the programming menu, so no app is needed..
Likewise,, the internal receiver does not support FloR or Flo coding.
The option to switch the built-in receiver ON or OFF in Level I programming is also the only change to the programming of the entire control unit.This removes the function that allowed the CLOSE input to be reprogrammed for partial opening. This omission is addressed by the option to expand the control unit with external modules offering even more functionality.Another change thatimprovesusercomfortisthe extensionofthe time limitfor completing each step in the programming procedurefrom10 seconds to 20 seconds.
The control unit now has a new OSE input for an optical safety edge (Optoelectronic Safety Edge), max. 15mA.
In master-slave mode, RBS units are backward compatible with RB units, but only from model RBA3R10, onwards, so the older control unit RBA3/C is no longer backward compatible..
The electric lock is powered at 24V, as before, with a maximum output of 10W. Other electric lock voltages can only be used via a relay.
The operator hasa green and a redLED – the greenlight indicates that the operator is moving, the redlight indicates photocell activation, as well asstandardstatuses and errors.
The Hi-Speed version RBS600HS can have integrated photocells, but you also need to purchase the RBSKITSAFE1. kit for this. It can also be fitted with a white status light, available separately as ELMM.

There will be a new backup power supply, PSS124while the old backup power supply, PS124 can only be connected using the adapter CABLA11. The final change, which is not functional, is of course the new operator design. We’ll leave the verdict to each person’s individual taste. If you don’t find it as appealing as the previous generation, remember that change is a part of life. Given time, you’ll get used to the new design—and you might even like it more :)
Do you have an old Robus RB and want to replace it with a new Robus RBS?
Great news: the height of the drive gear is the same as before. What’s more, you can also connect relay-type photocellsto the new RBS, so you can replace any older NICE operator (e.g. Road, Rox, Robo, Robus RB) with a new Robus RBS. Backward-compatible remote controls include Nice One, Era One and Inti. All older plug-in receivers can also be connected to the new RBS.
