When to choose NICE HOPP

HOPP is an articulated-arm operator with an aluminium arm for swing gates that open inward onto the property. It is also suitable for more frequent use, provided the gate meets the mechanical and operational limits. These operators are not suitable for gates that open outwards.

Length of one gate leafWeight of one gate leaf
Up to 1.5 mUp to 250 kg
Up to 2.4 mUp to 160 kg

The maximum values of 2.4 m and 250 kg do not apply at the same time. For lengths between these values, refer to the permissible-load curve. Two motors operate two gate leaves; they do not increase the capacity of a single leaf. Solid infill, wind, friction and the condition of the hinges affect suitability and service life.

Load and estimated service life

To estimate the service life, add the relevant indices. Read the result from the original chart. This is an approximate estimate assuming regular maintenance, not a guarantee of the number of cycles.

Installing the operator and articulated arm

Before installation, check that the gate is sturdy, the leaf is balanced, and it moves smoothly by hand along its full travel. The operator does not replace repair of damaged hinges. Attach the arm bracket to a rigid part of the leaf, such as the frame. The mounting surface must safely withstand the forces generated by the operator.

What to checkRequirement
Motor clearanceMinimum installation width: 170 mm; the operator body is 180 mm wide. Check the full outline and the arm's range of motion.
Clearance for arm movementMaintain at least 400 mm at the location shown in the drawing. This is not the cross-sectional dimension of the post.
A/B geometryIt is determined by the hinge position and the required opening angle; use the chart below.
AccessSafe access to the release key and cover must be maintained.
Obstacles and pedestrian gateThe leaf or arm must not hit a wall or any other object. For an integrated pedestrian gate, the operator must be disabled while it is open.

NICE HOPP – required clearance for articulated arm movement

How to determine mounting distances A and B

  1. Measure the distance A based on the hinge position and mounting surface shown in the drawing.
  2. Manually open the leaf to the desired position and measure its angle.
  3. Use the value of A and the required angle range in the chart to determine B, i.e. the position of the motor bracket. Dimensions are in millimetres.

Manufacturer's example: for A = 100 mm and an angle of 100°, B is approximately 180 mm. This example is not a universal installation dimension.

The chart distinguishes the ranges 90–95°, 95–100°, 100–105° and 105–110°. A larger angle is not possible with every hinge offset; both A and B must remain within the relevant range.

Anchoring the brackets and assembling the arm

  1. Hold the motor bracket level and mark the four holes. Choose the anchor screws, washers and wall plugs to suit the substrate; these anchoring components are not included.
  2. Secure the motor to the bracket with the two supplied M4.8 × 13 screws.
  3. Connect the curved arm to the straight arm using the pin and retaining ring. Attach the gate-leaf bracket in the same way.
  4. Disengage the motor and, with the gate closed, determine the position of the gate-leaf bracket. Extend the arms as shown in the original drawing and position the bracket as far from the drive as possible.
  5. Secure the bracket horizontally to the rigid gate-leaf frame. Reconnect the joint using the pin and retaining ring; then check the full travel and adjust the stops.

NICE HOPP – horizontal mounting of the motor bracket

NICE HOPP – pins and retaining rings for the articulated arm

NICE HOPP – correct position of the gate-leaf bracket

Adjusting the mechanical stops

The motor has mechanical stops with fine adjustment for opening and closing. The stops define the end positions for subsequent learning.

  1. Disengage the motor using the key and move the gate leaf by hand to the desired open position.
  2. Turn plastic disc A on the underside so that the cutout is under the arm, as shown in the drawing.
  3. Insert stop B in the first available position, in the correct orientation. Turn the disc to secure it and prevent it from falling out.
  4. Fine-adjust the position using screw C. If the closing stop is not on the ground, adjust the closing stop in the motor in the same way.
  5. Tighten the disc's retaining nut D to prevent it from turning on its own. Manually check that both positions are reached, then re-engage the motor.

HOPP control unit and wiring

HO7124 has a built-in POA3R10 and a mains supply of 230 V AC. The motors in the system operate at 24 V DC. HO7224 must not be connected directly to 230 V.

The following wiring and setup instructions apply to POA3R10. This board is not interchangeable with the older POA3. When repairing, check the markings on the board actually installed and its connectors; a similar drive name is not sufficient.

Disconnect the mains supply and backup battery before opening the cover. All electrical work must be carried out by a qualified technician.

OPENVolt-free NO contact for partial opening; the function can be changed by programming.
Receiver antennaCoaxial cable to the antenna connector on the OXIBD receiveractually installed; follow the markings on its terminals.

Do not apply an external voltage to the SbS and OPEN control inputs. Changing the function of FLASH or EL also changes the electrical characteristics of the output: for other auxiliary functions, it is intended for a 24 V DC lamp or relay, max. 4 W. Do not use a load intended for the original function without checking its suitability.

Auxiliary power supply on POA3R10

For a compatible reader or key-switch illumination, use the right-hand terminal of the STOP pair = − and the left-hand terminal of the SbS pair = +, with the image below oriented so the labels are above the terminals: 24 V DC (−30% to +50%), max. 200 mA. This pair remains powered in Stand-by mode. Connect the device's command relay separately as a volt-free NO contact; do not apply an external voltage to the command input. BlueBUS and volt-free contacts have no +/− polarity. The EL output is 12 V AC/max. 15 VA, with no fixed +/− polarity; FLASH for the warning light is 12 V DC/max. 21 W. For a polarized warning light, check the markings on the board and light.

POA3R10: the right-hand STOP terminal is negative; the left-hand SbS terminal is positive

BlueBUS photocells and STOP input

EPMB, EDSB and ETPB are connected in parallel to BlueBUS. The TX and RX units of one pair of photocells must have the same jumper settings; each additional pair must have a different address. Set the addresses of keypads and readers according to their own instructions. After adding or removing a device, repeat device scanning and a functional test.

FOTO 2 / FOTO 2 IIInternal photocells: when opening, they stop and reverse movement.
FOTO 3This configuration is not permitted for this HOPP control unit.

EPMB address jumper table shows the TX/RX settings. The general photocell manual also includes configurations for other control units; for HOPP, use a supported address from the table above.

Standard relay photocells are not a substitute for BlueBUS photocells. For STOP, NO contacts are connected in parallel and NC contacts in series. A technician must wire combinations of contacts or multiple resistive safety edges according to the diagram for the relevant devices; do not bypass the safety input.

Receiver and remote controls

Insert the receiver into the socket on the HO7124 with the power disconnected. Verified HOPP kits use OXIBD with ON2E. Pairing and deleting remote controls must be done according to the receiver actually installed. OXIBD instructions and setup are available on its own page; resetting the POA3R10 does not erase the radio memory.

PS124 backup power supply

For the POA3R10, PS124 is installed in the HO7124. Connect it only after installation and programming are complete, as it can operate the gate even when the mains supply is off. It must be disconnected while working on the wiring. The battery in the HO7124 also provides backup power to an HO7224 connected to this unit.

NICE HOPP with POA3R10 – location and connection of the PS124 backup battery

The PS124 is not included in the basic kits listed above. After charging, test a complete cycle both on mains power and on battery power alone. The speed and number of operations depend on the battery condition and gate load. Do not assume that a battery connector from another generation is interchangeable.

Initial start-up and gate testing

The arms of all installed operators must be fitted, the stops securely set, and the motors locked. Set the leaves approximately halfway along their travel so they have room to move in both directions during the test. For a two-leaf gate, check the operating sequence according to the overlap; the leaves must not collide when closing.

When switched on, the BlueBUS LED should flash regularly once per second, the LEDs on the photocells should indicate operation, and the FLASH warning light should be off. If the status is not as described, disconnect the power and check the wiring.

NICE HOPP POA3R10 – Open, Stop/Set and Close buttons and learning LEDs

1. BlueBUS and STOP device scanning

  1. Press and hold Open ▲ + Stop/Set.
  2. After approximately 3 seconds, when L1 and L2 flash rapidly, release the buttons.
  3. Wait for the process to finish. The STOP LED should be lit and L1/L2 should be off; L3/L4 may start flashing if the positions have not yet been learned.

This scan is required even when no devices are connected. Repeat it when BlueBUS or STOP devices are changed; it does not replace learning the leaf travel.

2. Automatic stop-position learning

  1. After the device scan has completed successfully, press and hold Stop/Set + Close ▼.
  2. After approximately 3 seconds, when L3 and L4 flash rapidly, release the buttons.
  3. For a two-leaf gate, the sequence is: close M1, close M2, open both motors to the stops, then quickly close both. With a single operator, only the connected motor is learned.
  4. At the end of a successful closing operation, L3 and L4 go out.

The first movement must be closing. If a motor opens or the wrong leaf moves first, stop the process using the Open or Close button. With the power disconnected, a technician must correct the motor direction or assignment according to the actual wiring, then repeat the learning process. Do not mix up the motor wires and sensor wires.

If a photocell or STOP device is triggered, learning is interrupted and L1 flashes. First resolve the cause, then repeat the learning process. The force must be appropriate for the gate; increasing the force does not remedy friction or replace a safety test.

Manual and mixed learning for a two-leaf gate

Manual learning lets you set the positions and delay for overlapping leaves individually. Press and hold Stop/Set + Close, then release as soon as L1 flashes, after approximately 1 second. Press and hold Open or Close to move the corresponding motor; release the button at the desired position. Save the position by pressing and holding Stop/Set for at least 3 seconds. The selected LED lights up and, when released, the sequence moves to the next one. No more than 10 seconds may elapse between steps.

LEDPosition saved for two motors
L1M1 closing – position 0.
L2M2 closing – position 0.
L3SA for motor M2 – the point at which M1 begins to open.
L4SC for motor M1 – the point at which M2 begins to close.
L5M1 opening – position 1.
L6M2 opening – position 1.

Mixed learning requires successful automatic learning to have been completed first. Then enter manual mode, use a short press of Open/Close to select the required SA or SC position, and adjust it using the same procedure. Do not change the closed or open positions set by the mechanical stops this way. The manual sequence in the table is for two motors; use automatic learning with one motor.

What to check before normal use

  • Several complete opening and closing cycles without points of increased friction, colliding arms or contact between the leaves.
  • Correct deceleration, leaf sequence and reliable end positions.
  • The operation of each pair of photocells and the STOP device in the relevant directions of movement.
  • Manual release, re-engagement and any backup power supply.
  • Impact force measurement and protection of all crushing, pinching and entrapment points.

Installation and commissioning must be completed by a qualified technician. Obstacle detection by the operator does not replace the required safety devices or force measurement.

POA3R10 diagnostics and reset

In the event of a fault, the warning light emits a short series of flashes, pauses for 1 s, then repeats the same series. The number of flashes helps identify the cause.

FlashesCauseWhat to check
1BlueBUS mismatchCheck the devices and wiring. After an actual change to the configuration, repeat device scan.
2Photocell triggeredRemove the obstruction, clean and align the photocells, and check their addresses and operation.
3Increased resistance / force limitCheck the gate, hinges, arms and stops. Force setting may be changed by a technician only after the mechanical cause has been eliminated.
4STOP triggeredCheck the device and wiring for the STOP.
5Internal parameter errorWait at least 30 s and repeat the command; if the error persists, arrange for servicing.
6Permitted load exceededLet the operator rest for a few minutes and assess the number of operations and friction.
7Electrical circuit errorA technician should disconnect all power sources, including the battery, then restore power after a few seconds. If the error recurs, arrange servicing.
8Command continuously activeCheck the switch, timer control and SbS/OPEN inputs.
9Automation lockedCancel the lock command using the appropriate control. This does not necessarily mean the gate has been mechanically released with a key.

Basic LED check

LEDMeaning
BlueBUSOne flash per second: normal operation. Two quick flashes: an input has changed. Off: check the power supply and fuses; continuously lit: fault.
STOPLit when the idle state has been correctly learned; goes out when triggered.
SbS / OPENLit when the corresponding command is active.
L1/L2 flashingCheck and scan the devices.
L3/L4 flashingThe limit-stop positions must be learned.

How to read the fault history

Use Stop/Set to enter programming and select input L8. Press and hold Stop/Set; after approximately 3 s, the LEDs for operations with errors will light up (L1 = most recent, L8 = eighth). While continuing to hold Stop/Set, select the operation using Open/Close. Its LED will flash the number of times indicated in the fault table. Then release Stop/Set.

Erasing the control unit settings

Resetting erases the POA3R10's individual settings. With the gate stationary, press and hold Open ▲ + Close ▼, until L1 to L8 light up after approximately 3 s. Release the buttons. If the settings are successfully erased, L1 to L8 will flash rapidly for 3 s. Then repeat device learning, limit-stop position learning and safety tests. This reset does not erase the receiver's radio memory.

Manual release during a power outage

Release only when the gate leaf is stationary. Insert the key into the release mechanism and turn it 180° in the direction marked on the mechanism. You can open or close the gate leaf manually without forcing it. Before resuming automatic operation, re-engage the operator with the key and remove the key; for a double-leaf gate, check both motors.

NICE HOPP – key release, 180°

Release from the outside

If there is no other entrance to the property, you can add a KIO with cable KA1. For a double-leaf gate, the manufacturer recommends connecting it to the motor for the leaf that opens first from the closed position. The cable is installed in the release mechanism; it does not change the gate's opening direction.

Maintenance and safe use

Schedule servicing no later than 6 months or 20,000 operations, whichever comes first. Disconnect the mains and battery before servicing. Check the anchors, corrosion, pins and retaining rings, and the condition of the arms, hinges, cables, stops and release mechanism. After servicing, repeat the operational and safety tests.

Do not operate the gate leaf while anyone is in its path. Children must not use the gate as a toy, and remote controls must be kept out of their reach. If a safety device fails, use the manual release and arrange for repairs; do not disable the safety device.
