Simplified procedure for wiring and starting NICE Robus and Run gate operators

If you don’t feel like reading the entire manual for Robus operators, you can get your NICE Robus or Run operator up and running in just a few minutes by following this simplified wiring and setup procedure.

We assume that the sliding gate moves freely along its track and that you have completed the steps for installing the rack, installing the operator, and fitting the rack end stops.

In other words, with the operator released, the gate can be moved by hand, and the operator’s limit switch activates in both the fully closed and fully open positions.

The easiest way is to get the operator itself moving first, without any accessories, which you can connect one by one later. But you can just as easily connect the accessories straight away—it doesn’t matter when you do it; anything can be connected or disconnected at any time. It is always possible to restore the operator to its factory settings.

Step 0. Wiring

This is probably a good time to plug in the radio receiver. You can plug it in later, too, but in principle you should only insert or remove it when the power is disconnected.

Power supply cable
Terminal L – live wire from the power supply cable
Terminal N – neutral wire from the power supply cable
Terminal marked with the earth symbol – earth wire from the power supply cable

Flashing light
Connect the two-core cable from the flashing light, from the terminal marked with the bulb symbol, to the FLASH terminal on the control unit. If you are not installing a flashing light, leave the FLASH terminal unused.

Antenna
If your control unit has a radio receiver with a terminal, connect the antenna to it; if not, connect the antenna to the control unit. If you don’t have an antenna, connect the small wire supplied with the receiver to its first terminal (temporary antenna).

Photoelectric safety sensors
Run a two-core cable from the BUS (BlueBUS) terminal on the control unit to each photoelectric sensor, or run it from the control unit to the first sensor and then on to the second. Polarity does not matter. Do not break any circuits on the circuit board. More about connecting photoelectric sensors.

Key switch
Connect terminals NC and C of the first microswitch in the key switch to the STOP input on the control unit.
Connect terminals NO and C of the second microswitch in the key switch to the SbS (or P.P.) input on the control unit.
More about connecting a key switch.

Step 1. Procedure for getting the operator moving:

  1. Disconnect the operator from the power supply. The easiest way is to remove the power fuse.
  2. Manually move the gate to roughly the middle of its travel (so it is neither open nor closed), engage the operator, and pull the gate leaf slightly to engage the gearbox.
  3. Set the gate opening direction selector on the control unit. If you are standing inside the property, facing the gate from the inside:
    • if the operator is on the left (the gate opens to the left), set the selector to the left as well;
    • if the operator is on the right (the gate opens to the right), set the selector to the right.
  4. Reconnect the operator to the power supply.
  5. With the factory settings (or after a reset) the BlueBUS and L1+L2 LEDs on the control unit should be flashing. The AUX IN indicator at the top right should also be lit, if fitted.
  6. Run the connected-device learning procedure: Press and hold the OPEN+STOP/SET buttons simultaneously (the first and second buttons). When the L1+L2 LEDs start flashing faster (about 3–4 seconds), release the buttons. The L1+L2 LEDs will continue flashing for a short while, then the operator will hum and click, and L3+L4 will start flashing.
  7. Run the gate travel learning procedure: Press and hold the STOP/SET+CLOSE buttons together. When L3+L4 start flashing faster and the gate begins to move, release the buttons. The operator will open the gate and then close it, and the gate will remain closed. L3+L4 will turn off.
  8. You should now be able to operate the gate by pressing OPEN, STOP/SET, and CLOSE. The OPEN button opens the gate, the CLOSE button closes it, and the STOP/SET button stops it.
  9. Congratulations—you’ve got your NICE Robus or Run sliding gate operator up and running!

If you haven’t already, you can connect the photoelectric sensors, flashing light, key switch, or other accessories, plug in the receiver, and pair the remote controls.
