Simplified procedure for connecting and commissioning the NICE Shel gate operator

If you don’t feel like reading the entire manual for Shel operators, you can get your NICE Shel operator up and running in just a few minutes using this simplified wiring and setup procedure.

We assume the garage door moves up and down.

In other words, if the trolley in the guide rail is disengaged, you can move the door manually.

The easiest way is to get the operator running on its own, without any accessories, which you can connect later one at a time. But feel free to connect the accessories right away—it doesn’t matter when you do it; you can connect or disconnect anything at any time. You can always restore the operator to its factory settings.

Pairing the remote control

In this step, you’ll save the remote control to memory so that repeated presses of the button will open the door, stop it, close it, stop it, open it, and so on.

  1. You have 10 seconds for each step.
  2. Press the P1 pairing button once, without holding it down. The LED will then flash green at one-second intervals.
  3. Press and hold a button on the remote control. When the LED on the operator flashes three longer times, release the button.
  4. Wait for the LED to finish flashing, and you’re done.

If you want to save a different command or pair another button for a different function, see Pairing a remote control with a Shel operator.

Learning the door’s movement

  1. Plug the operator into a power outlet.
  2. Engage the trolley in the guide rail.
  3. Press and hold the P1 button on the control unit. When the red LED lights up (after about 5 seconds), release the button.
  4. The control unit will move the door down, up, and then down again, and learn the end positions.
  5. Now use the remote control to fully open and close the door 4–5 times. During this phase, the control unit will measure the force required to move the door at each point along its travel.

That’s it—you can now use the operator.
