Calculate the position of the rear bracket using the graph, from which you can determine the dimensions A and B and the maximum opening angle. Note that the values A and B must be similar (ideally identical) so that the operator can move smoothly in a straight line.

Calculation graph  Example of reading values from the graph

Calculation procedure:

  1. Measure the distance C from the diagram
  2. On the graph draw a horizontal line crossing the measured value C
  3. Where this line crosses the DIL (Recommended Installation Line), you can determine the maximum opening angle
  4. If the intersection is below level t, you will need to adjust the values to move the intersection above this level
  5. If the intersection is above level t, everything is fine; however, if the specified maximum opening angle is unsuitable, you will need to adjust the value of A and, if necessary, the value of B, so that they are similar (ideally identical)

Before attaching the bracket to the post or wall, it must be shortened to the required length corresponding to the dimensions A and B and welded to the mounting plate.

Cut the bracket to the required length Weld the shortened bracket to the mounting plate
1. Cut the bracket to the required length 2. Weld the shortened bracket to the mounting plate

The supplied package includes a 150 mm bracket. If you need a longer bracket for a special installation, or if you want the gate to open outward, we recommend ordering the extended NICE PLA6 bracket.

Before attaching the rear bracket, check that the front bracket will reach the solid part of the gate leaf, as there is a height difference between the front and rear brackets, as shown in the picture.

Difference F=44mm.

Height difference between the front and rear brackets

If everything fits, attach the rear bracket to the post or wall using screws, wall plugs and washers.

II. Installing the front mounting bracket

The front bracket must be fitted to the gate leaf at a distance determined by the values D and E, which you can read from the table (value D is fixed, namely 730 mm):

A 100 110 120 130 140 150 160 170 180 190 200 210
E 630 620 610 600 590 580 570 560 550 540 530 530

The supplied package includes a weld-on bracket. If you would prefer a bolt-on bracket, we recommend ordering the alternative NICE PLA8 bolt-on bracket.

  1. Calculate from the table value E
  2. Calculate the height according to the image bracket heights (view image)
  3. Attach the bracket to the gate leaf (if welding the bracket, we recommend tack-welding it for now only)

III. Mounting the gate operator on the rear bracket

Mounting the NICE Toona operator on the rear bracket
  1. Attach the motor to the bracket as shown in the image, using the supplied rear-bracket pin, washer and nut.
  2. Tighten the nut fully, then loosen it by 1/10 of a turn so that the gate operator can pivot

IV. Mounting the gate operator on the front bracket

Mounting the NICE Toona operator on the front bracket
  1. Attach the operator to the bracket as shown in the image, using the supplied pin and washer.
  2. Tighten the pin fully

V. Adjusting the mechanical travel stop

If the internal mechanical travel stop, against which the operator stops when opening, is used, external ground stops are not required. Adjust as follows:

Adjusting the mechanical travel stop on the NICE Toona operator
  1. Release the operator according to the operator release instructions
  2. Loosen the mechanical stop
  3. Manually move the gate leaf to the desired open position
  4. Move the entire mechanical stop towards the pin and tighten the screw as shown in the image
  5. If both stops are used, repeat steps 2–4 for the front stop (opening stop) and the rear stop (closing stop) mechanical stop
  6. Manually move the gate leaf to the closed position and lock the operator
