Description of Drive kit for sliding gates up to 400 kg CAME BXL04AGS, 801MS-0140 (D)
CAME BXL04AGS operator is designed for sliding gates weighing up to 400 kg and a passage width of up to 10 m. It has an electromechanical stop switch. The operator is non-reversible. Detailed technical specifications ». Download the manual ».
BXL04AGS with ZN6 control board is a sliding gate operator with a 24 V DC motor and mechanical limit switches. The mains supply is 230 V AC. Consider the gate’s weight, length and resistance together; the operator is not suitable for a gate that is difficult to move or damaged.
Installation, mains wiring and commissioning must be carried out by a qualified technician. Disconnect the mains and any batteries before carrying out work. The encoder and photocells do not replace fixed stops, protection of hazardous areas or force testing on the fully installed gate.
Check the control board before programming. The following settings apply to the ZN6 with five DIP switches, three trimmers and a P1 button. If the operator has a different control board or a display, do not use these DIP switch combinations.
CAME BXL04AGS kit
The kit includes a 24 V motorised operator, remote control, photocells, radio receiver and flashing light. Choose any additional components, especially the rack and supplementary controls, to suit the specific gate. Check the control unit and supplied components before wiring.

Operator installation
With the operator released, the gate must move easily along its entire travel path, without slope, damaged wheels or risk of coming off the track. Check that fixed mechanical stops are securely installed in both the open and closed positions, that the surface is stable, and that areas where the gate leaf could trap someone are protected. Water must not collect in the operator area, and the operator must not be exposed to a direct jet of water.
Foundation and anchor plate
The installation example uses an excavation measuring 450 × 300 mm and 400 mm deep. Size the foundation to suit the ground conditions and the specific gate. The formwork extends 50 mm above ground level; use reinforcement and M12 anchors. A Ø 40 mm conduit is recommended for the operator supply cable and a Ø 25 mm conduit for accessories.
Install the anchor plate level, route the cables through its openings and leave the threaded sections of the anchors protruding above the surface. Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours. Position the plate relative to the rack according to the dimensioned drawing; the pinion height differs between these two operators.
Installation and height adjustment
Remove the cover and position the operator on the plate. The cables must pass through the bottom of the housing and through correctly fitted cable glands. While adjusting the operator, raise it using the threaded feet by 5–10 mm, leaving room to adjust the meshing clearance.
Rack and mesh clearance
Release the operator and attach the rack while moving the gate leaf manually. When joining rack sections, place a spare rack section beneath the joint so the teeth align smoothly. After installation, adjust the operator’s vertical and horizontal position.
Leave 1–2 mm of clearance between the rack and pinion. The weight of the gate must not rest on the operator. Move the gate manually through its full travel, check the mesh and rack joints, and only then tighten the nuts and washers on the anchors.
Mechanical limit switches
Move the gate leaf to the open position manually. Attach the opening limit switch tab to the rack so that its ramp reliably actuates the spring-loaded microswitch. Set the closing limit switch tab in the same way. Secure the tabs firmly; the gate’s fixed mechanical stop and the operator’s limit switch tab serve different purposes.
Set the cut-off position so that during normal opening or closing the operator does not push the gate leaf against the fixed mechanical stop.
Wiring
| Connection | Cable / requirement |
|---|---|
| 230 V AC mains, L/N/PE | 3G × 1.5 mm² for lengths up to 20 m; 3G × 2.5 mm² for 20–30 m. |
| Flashing light / command | 2 × 0.5 mm²; check the cross-section for the specific load and cable length. |
| DIR10 photocells | TX: 2 × 0.5 mm²; RX: 4 × 0.5 mm², according to the synchronised DIR wiring diagram. Also connect the TX link and the NC contact. |
| Antenna | RG58; recommended length up to 5 m. |
The number of conductors must cover the entire selected wiring diagram. For longer runs, simultaneous loads or other accessories, a technician must recalculate the cross-section based on current and voltage drop. Protect cables from damage and contact with the motor or transformer; route the mains supply and low-voltage circuits suitably separated.
Manual release in the event of a power failure
Disconnect the power supply and secure the gate leaf before moving it manually. Releasing a damaged or unbalanced gate can cause uncontrolled movement.
- Insert the key into the lock and turn it clockwise.
- Pull and open the release lever as shown.
- Move the gate manually in a controlled manner, keeping people clear of its path.
- To re-engage the mechanism, return the lever to its original position and lock it. Before issuing a motor command, check that the drive is locked.
ZN6 control board layout
The ZN6 has five DIP switches, A.C.T., SP.SLOW and SENS. trimmers, a P1 programming button and a command button 7. The LEDs indicate the power supply, commands and safety inputs. Radio operation requires a plug-in card in the AF connector; the R800 is used with a compatible coded keypad.

24 V flashing light
KLED24 connect to 10–E. It operates at 24 V AC/DC and has a power consumption of 2 W. With AC, the supply has no DC polarity; for DC, terminal 10 on the board is positive and E is the switched output. KLED24 does not have separate +/− markings on its power terminals. A 230 V flashing light must not be connected to this output.
Photocells and safety test
CAME DIR10 consists of a TX transmitter and an RX receiver with a range of 10 m. Set the receiver jumper to 24 V. The pair draws 60 mA at 24 V AC. The RX power terminals are marked 10 (+), 2 (−); TX has TX (+), 2 (−). With AC power, DC polarity does not apply. The TX terminal is part of the synchronisation circuit; do not omit its connection.
| Photocell terminal | Standard wiring | Wiring with test |
|---|---|---|
| RX 10 (+) | Board 10 | Board 10 |
| RX 2 (−) and RX C | Board 2 | Board 2 |
| RX TX ↔ TX TX (+) | Connect TX between the receiver and transmitter | Same connection |
| TX 2 (−) | Board 2 | Board TS |
| RX NC | Board CX | Board CX |
The C–NC contact is a volt-free safety contact. It has no positive or negative polarity. The power supply wiring and the contact wiring are two separate circuits. For DC, 10 is the positive terminal; the negative RX 2 lead is connected to the board’s common terminal 2 in this specific diagram. Do not confuse terminal 2 with power supply terminal 11.
Enable the connected CX input using DIP 4. For protection during closing, keep the C1 response; use DIP 1,4 to select C4. C1 reopens the gate if the beam is interrupted while closing; C4 stops movement and resumes once the obstruction is removed.
The original ZN6 diagrams below show synchronized DN10 photocells. The DIR10 terminal layout above is also based on its own wiring diagram. Do not use this layout for photocells with different markings or a different interface.
Test wiring via TS
For the test, move TX 2 to TS, while RX 2 and RX C remain connected to board terminal 2. The TX connection between the transmitter and receiver remains in place. Change the wiring with the power off first, and only then enable the test.
Enable the test using DIP 2,4 and P1; the CX input must be enabled. If the test fails, the board will not execute the command. After setup, return all DIP switches to OFF.
After wiring, test beam interruption during the relevant movement, then clear the beam again. Do not bridge the safety input as a permanent workaround for a fault.
Initial ZN6 startup
- Check the mechanics, rack clearance, fixed and switching stops, drive engagement, and all connected safety devices.
- Switch on the power supply and check the PWR LED. Set the following in sequence: travel direction, STOP and travel learning.
- Enable the connected CX, set its response, and configure the photocell test if applicable. Leave unused CX disabled.
- Set and save the trimmers, any automatic closing, and partial opening.
- Pair the remote controls. Check the full cycle, STOP, photocells, slowdown, end positions, warning light, and behavior after a power failure.
Automatic learning of the full travel
Prerequisites: correct direction and STOP, encoder enabled, travel path clear, and limit switches correctly set. After moving it manually, the drive must be re-engaged. A technician must supervise the entire movement; stay clear of the gate area during learning.
- With the drive stopped, set DIP 1,2,3,5 to ON; DIP 4 remains OFF.
- Press P1. The gate will perform a series of movements to determine the slowdown points.
- The red LED flashes during learning. Successful completion is confirmed by a 1-second beep; failure is indicated by rapid flashing and 4 beeps.
- P1 can interrupt the learning process. When complete, return all five DIP switches to OFF.
- Check the complete opening and closing cycle and the operation of the safety devices. If an error occurs, correct the cause first and only then repeat the learning process.
Learning the partial opening position
After learning the full travel, use button 7 on the board to move the gate to the desired partial-open position. Set DIP 4,5 to ON and press P1. The LED stays on and a 1-second beep confirms the position has been saved. Rapid flashing with four beeps indicates an invalid position. Then return the DIP switches to OFF and test the 2–3P command and the partial-position automatic function.
Programming with DIP switches and the P1 button
The DIP switches select the function, which you save by pressing P1. They are not permanent operating switches. For each setting, switch ON only the numbers listed in the relevant row; all others must be OFF. Program only when the drive is stopped. After confirmation, return all five DIP switches to OFF.
When switching a function to active or to its alternative setting, the LED stays on and a 1-second beep sounds; when switching it back to disabled or to its original setting, the LED flashes and two beeps sound. STOP, the encoder, and automatic partial stopping are enabled by default, so the first press of P1 disables them. Learning, pairing, deletion, and reset have their own confirmations, as shown in the table.
Trimmers and saving values
| Trimmer | Range / purpose |
|---|---|
| A.C.T. | Wait time before automatic closing 1–120 s; enable automatic closing using the separate function. |
| SP.SLOW | Deceleration speed 30% (−) to 60% (+) of the maximum speed. |
| SENS. | Obstacle detection sensitivity: − minimum, + maximum sensitivity. After changing the setting, check the force and safety functions. |
After adjusting the trimmers, save all three values: Set DIP switches 2, 3, 4 and 5 to ON, press P1, wait for confirmation by the LED and a 1 s beep, then set all DIP switches to OFF. Changes will be lost if they are not saved this way.
Pairing remote controls
ZN6 stores up to 25 users. For a 433.92 MHz fixed-code system, you can use AF43S and a compatible TOP-432EE. Insert the AF card only when the power is off. The same frequency alone does not guarantee coding compatibility.
- Select the DIP switch combination for the required command: 1 = partial opening; 2 = open only; 1, 2 = open–close–change direction; 3 = open–STOP–close–STOP.
- Press P1. Once the LED starts flashing, within 10 seconds press the selected remote control button.
- The LED stays on and a 1 s beep confirms that the button has been stored. An already paired transmitter is indicated by rapid flashing and 4 beeps.
- Set all DIP switches back to OFF and check the assigned function.
Deleting remote controls and resetting
Delete all users: Set DIP switches 1 and 3 to ON and the others to OFF; hold P1 for 5 s. The LED stays on and a 1 s beep confirms deletion. Then set the DIP switches to OFF. This removes all paired remote controls.
Reset parameters: Set all five DIP switches to ON and press P1. The LED flashes and two beeps sound; then set all five DIP switches to OFF. This reset does not delete users. Before using the system again, set and check the direction, STOP, CX, learning and safety functions again.
ZN6 diagnostics

| 1 – yellow | Lit when the NC contact 1–2 is open. STOP and its configuration. |
| 3P – yellow | Lit when the NO contact 2–3P is closed; if it stays lit, check for a stuck command. |
| 7 – yellow | Lit when the NO contact 2–7 is closed; check the button/switch. |
| PRG – red | Programming, waiting for automatic closing or a fault. The meaning depends on the procedure being performed. |
| PWR – green | Board power supply. If it is not lit, check the power supply and fuses. |
| Indicator | Check / corrective action |
|---|---|
| 4 beeps during learning | Check the learning procedure, direction, limit switches, free movement and encoder. |
| 4 beeps during pairing | The transmitter is already stored; this does not confirm that a new transmitter was stored. |
| 4 beeps at partial opening position | Select another permitted partial opening position. |
| Does not move | Check the power supply, drive release, STOP, activated CX, TS test and continuously closed commands. |
| Opens but does not close | Check the photocells and their NC contact; for automatic closing, also check that it is enabled and that A.C.T. is stored. |
ZN6 fuses
| Circuit | Fast-acting fuse |
|---|---|
| Mains LINE | 1.6 A-F |
| Accessories | 2 A-F |
Check the fuses with the power disconnected. Use the same rating and fast-acting type; a higher-rated fuse or repeatedly replacing it without eliminating the short circuit is not a repair.
Maintenance and servicing
Regularly check that the track and rack are clean, that the gate moves easily by hand, the drive is securely fastened, the limit stops operate, cables are in good condition, the manual release works, and photocells and other safety devices are functioning. Disconnect the mains and any battery backup before cleaning or carrying out work. If there is damage, unusual noise or vibration, stop operation and have the cause rectified.
Increasing SENS. sensitivity does not replace mechanical repairs; trimmer settings must be stored using DIP 2,3,4,5 and P1. After servicing, check the full travel, forces and safety devices again.
