Description of NICE SMX2R - universal two-channel external receiver with rolling code

Available replacement!
The NICE SMX2R external receiver is on clearance. Will be replaced by the model NICE OX2.

NICE SMX2R two-channel (what does it mean?) receiver compatible with NICE rolling-code remote controls of the FloR (the 52-bit code allows 4.5 trillion combinations, making it virtually impossible to misuse). It also recognizes the encoding used by O-View remote controls Era One and Era Inti and the Smilo. With this receiver, you can control an automated device from another brand using a NICE remote control.

You can store up to 256 remote controls in the receiver's memory.

Selecting the power supply for the NICE SMX2R receiver

The device comes with pre-wired cables that you simply connect to a power source (12 V or 24 V DC or AC). Select the power supply using the jumper according to the following table:

NICE SMX2R power supply selection Jumper Power supply Voltage range
No Inserted 24 V AC/DC 18–28 V
Inserted 12 V AC/DC 10–18 V

Electrical connection

The receiver comes with wiring for the power supply, two relay outputs, and an antenna input:

NICE SMX2R wiring

Wire colour Input/output Description
Red/Black Power supply Red is positive, black is negative. For AC, the polarity does not matter.
White/White Relay 1 output.
i.e. control using button 1.
For normally open (NO) contacts. To use normally closed (NC) contacts, follow these steps.
Purple/Purple Relay 2 output.
i.e. control using button 2.
For normally open (NO) contacts. To use normally closed (NC) contacts, follow these steps.
Yellow Antenna The antenna is optional; you can leave the receiver with just the supplied wire, giving you a range of approximately 40–50 m.

Using normally closed (NC) contacts

By default, the receiver is used with normally open (NO) contacts. This means that after a command is sent from the remote control, it closes the circuit for approx. 300 ms, triggering the controlled device. If you need the opposite operation—i.e. the circuit is closed and, after a command is sent, opens for approx. 300 ms—follow these steps:

1. Open the receiver's top cover 2. Open the receiver's bottom cover
Open the receiver's top cover Open the receiver's bottom cover
3. Remove the circuit board and turn it over
For each relay separately, cut connection X and solder connection Y

The same procedure applies to both relays:

  1. Cut the marked connection X
  2. Solder the marked connection Y

This modification is reversible and can be made for just one relay if needed.

Pairing remote controls with the NICE SMX2R receiver

Pairing a remote control with the receiver

If you just need to quickly pair a remote control with the receiver and don't need any additional functions, press and hold button A on the receiver until the LED lights up B. You then have 10 seconds to press and hold any button on the remote control until the LED flashes three times.

For more advanced functions—for example, using a remote control with multiple devices or assigning a specific command to a button—see the detailed article about pairing remote controls with NICE gate operators.

Changing the receiver channel assigned to a remote control button

On NICE FloR FLO2R-S remote controls you can set directly on the remote control which channel each button transmits. By default, the first button is set to channel 1 and the second button to channel 2. Follow these steps for each button:

Changing the remote control channels
Changing the remote control channel: Button 1  Changing the remote control channel: Button 2
Break the indicated connection and bridge it with a drop of solder to channel 2, 3, or 4.  Break the indicated connection and bridge it with a drop of solder to channel 1, 3, or 4.
