Description of NICE LP22 - dual-channel 24V magnetic metal detector FEIG VEK MNH2-R24-C
Magnetic metal detector for DIN rail mounting with relay outputs. Voltage: 24 VAC/DC, 2 relays, max. 48 V – 1 A, delayed loop activation function. Suitable for barrier control systems, gate and door controls, parking facilities, and traffic systems. With a suitable configuration, the LP22 detector model can also monitor vehicle direction of travel.
The loop is the sensitive part of the detector. It is essentially an inductive coil connected to a capacitor that is part of the detector’s electrical circuit, together forming an LC oscillator. The resonant frequency of this circuit depends on the loop’s inductance. When a vehicle passes over the loop, its metal parts (bodywork, wheels, suspension) change the inductance and, as a result, the oscillator frequency. The detector monitors this frequency and switches the relay when the change exceeds the threshold set according to the selected sensitivity.
This can be used, for example, for:
- a fully automated gate or barrier operator that opens the gate when a vehicle is detected
- a traffic light that changes color when vehicles are detected
- a vehicle counter in parking spaces that counts cars entering and leaving
The required length of insulated copper wire must also be purchased for the inductive detectors. A standard loop requires approximately 60 metres of 1.5 mm² cable. Cold concrete or sealant/silicone is needed to embed the cable in the road. The magnetic detector replaces the older LP2 version.
