Description of Drive kit for sliding gates up to 800 kg CAME BX708, 801MS-0030 (D)

CAME BX708AGS drive is designed for sliding gates weighing up to 800 kg and leaf length up to 14 m. It has an electromechanical stop switch. The drive is non-reversible. Detailed technical specifications ». Download the manual ».

CAME BX708AGS and ZBX7N control unit

The kit includes a drive for a sliding gate weighing up to 800 kg with mechanical limit switches. The motor and power supply are 230 V AC; accessories are powered from a separate 24 V AC. The built-in encoder enables travel learning, obstacle detection and adjustable slow-down.

Before making adjustments, check the exact drive, the ZBX7N marking on the board and the firmware version in H1. The table below is for an older control unit version with F8 options 0 = partial opening / 1 = opening. Matching F8 alone does not confirm that the entire version is the same. Boards with the same name and F8 options may still behave differently in terms of memory or technical specifications. Before making any changes, compare the settings and procedure with the manual supplied with the specific board. If F8 offers options 1/2, do not use the numbers and factory settings shown below. Do not confuse drives with a 230 V mains-powered motor with 24 V models.

Installation, mains connection, force adjustment and safety testing must be carried out by a qualified technician. Disconnect the power supply before handling terminals or plug-in cards. The drive must not be used as a substitute for missing mechanical stops or to overcome a faulty gate mechanism.

Drive selection and load

The maximum gate leaf weight is 800 kg, maximum length 14 m. When released, the gate must move smoothly along its entire travel and have mechanical stops in both directions. If the gate jolts, sticks or encounters increased resistance, repair the guide and mechanism first.

17 cycles per hour and 6 consecutive cycles apply to a reference gate leaf length of 4 m, a temperature of 20 °C and a correctly installed gate with no additional friction. These figures do not apply to every gate length up to 14 m. For a longer gate leaf and higher temperatures, the permitted number of cycles decreases as shown in the original graphs.

Cycles per hour by gate leaf length and temperature

Consecutive cycles by gate leaf length and temperature

Do not extrapolate the graphs beyond the last point shown. The number of cycles per hour is an operating limit, not a service-life guarantee.

Drive installation and cabling

  1. Check the gate leaf is stable, and inspect the rollers, track or guide, smooth movement, and secure mechanical stops. Guard hazardous areas at the rack and pinion.
  2. Choose a solid base protected from impact and direct water spray. Install conduits; Ø 40 mm is recommended for the drive and Ø 25 mm for accessories.
  3. The foundation formwork should be larger than the mounting plate and extend 50 mm above ground level. Add steel reinforcement. Secure the M12 bolts to the plate and route the conduits through its holes.
  4. For an existing rack, follow the original dimensional detail of 84 / 105 mm. Level the plate and set it in concrete; allow at least 24 hours for the concrete to cure.
  5. Leave approximately 600 mm of cable protruding. Remove the covers, place the drive on the plate, and use the adjustable feet to raise it by 5–10 mm before initially levelling it, leaving room for adjustment.

Use H05RN-F for outdoor mains wiring and H05VV-F for indoor wiring; for low-voltage wiring up to 48 V, use FROR 20-22 II as appropriate. Antenna: RG58, recommended maximum length 5 m. Serial connection: UTP CAT5, up to 1,000 m. For other distances, multiple loads, or test wiring, size the conductors and cross-section as required based on the actual load and wiring configuration.

Route cables through separate cable glands; they must not touch the motor or transformer. The mains supply must have a suitable two-pole disconnect and a PE protective conductor.

Rack, clearance and end positions

  1. Release the drive. Secure the module 4 rack to the gate along its full travel. When joining rack sections, align the teeth using a spare piece of rack under the joint.
  2. Move the gate manually through its full travel. Adjust the height using the feet and the lateral position using the mounting slots; leave a 1–2 mm clearance. The weight of the gate leaf must not rest on the drive.
  3. Once level, firmly tighten the drive mounting.
  4. Open the gate manually. Slide the opening limit switch cam on the rack until it activates the microswitch spring, then secure it.
  5. Set the closing limit switch cam in the same way. As shown in the dimensional detail, leave approximately 20 mm. Check both directions and re-engage the drive.

Manual release during a power failure

  1. Disconnect the power and secure the gate leaf to prevent it from moving on its own.
  2. Open the lock cover, insert the key and unlock the release door.
  3. Open the door and turn the release control within the opening as indicated by the arrow in the illustration. You can then slide the gate manually.
  4. To re-engage the drive, turn the control back as shown in the locking illustration, close the door, lock it with the key and close the lock cover.
  5. Check that the drive is engaged before restoring power. Leaving the door open may trigger E8.

CAME DIR10 photocells

DIR10 are a synchronized transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) with a range of 10 m. For this wiring, set the photocells to 24 V; the supply is 24 V AC. The pair draws 60 mA at 24 V AC. In the original diagram, RX terminal 10 and TX terminal TX are marked +, while terminals 2 are marked −; when powered from the control board, this is AC with no DC polarity. Follow the specific TX synchronization wiring, not just the pair of power wires.

With C1, opening the contact while closing causes the gate to open. C2 causes closing when the gate is opening; C3 stops movement and then triggers automatic closing; available only when F19 is active. C4 stops movement and resumes it once the obstacle has been removed. Select the response according to the area being protected. After wiring, check operation by interrupting the beam during the relevant movement.

DIR10 / DELTA-S – standard wiring to ZBX7N

DIR10 / DELTA-S – wiring with test via TS

Testing is more than just a menu setting. First wire the terminals according to the test wiring diagram, then enable F5. If the test fails, the control board will not execute the command and will display E4. DELTA has different terminals; do not use this DIR10 terminal schedule for it.

Safety edges

Connect the DFWN edge with the volt-free NC contact between 2 and CX/CY, and select C7 or C8. For the DFI interface, use the separate power supply and contacts shown below; the NC-contact edge itself is not powered this way. The r7/r8 options are for the corresponding 8.2 kΩ resistive edge, not for an arbitrary contact. The specific type, location and resulting force must be verified by a safety test.

Original DFI terminalZBX7N / safety edge
24V / 0VDFI 24V → ZBX7N 10, DFI 0V → ZBX7N 11. The power supply in this diagram is 24 V AC, with no DC polarity +/−; terminal 12V remains unused. The shared output limit for accessories on terminals 10–11 is 20 W.

C / NO / NCConnect the corresponding DFI terminals to the C / NO / NC terminals of the DFWN edge as shown. Do not confuse them with the separate pair of output-contact terminals to the board.

Original wiring for the DFWN contact edge and DFI interface

Initial startup

  1. Check the mechanical stops, limit switches, secure locking of the drive, cable protection and safety-device wiring.
  2. Switch on the power; check the PWR LED and display operation. In A1, check 2 = BX708AGS.
  3. Set F54 according to the actual travel direction, and F1 according to the connected STOP button. Configure CX/CY and, if applicable, the F5 test. Keep F11 = ON for learning.
  4. Run A3 – travel learning.
  5. Configure only the necessary operating functions, add remote controls, and test the full travel, partial opening, STOP, photocells, safety edges and beacon.

The first normal operation after switching on the power is opening. At this stage, wait until fully open; closing is not available. A3 calibration follows its own sequence, shown below. If you notice unusual noise, vibration or incorrect direction of travel, immediately use ESC/STOP and remove the cause.

A3 – automatic travel learning

Prerequisites: F11 = ON, correct A1 and F54 settings, limit switches set, both fixed mechanical stops in place, and the gate leaf approximately halfway along its travel. After moving it manually, lock the drive again. Ensure the entire travel path is clear.

Safety devices are disabled during calibration. A technician must directly supervise the entire movement and prevent anyone from entering the gate area.

  1. Hold ENTER for at least 1 s, use the arrows to select A3, then confirm with ENTER.
  2. Select ON and confirm with ENTER.
  3. The gate first closes to the end position; the display shows CL1.
  4. Then it opens to the end position; the display shows OP1. Do not enter the travel path.
  5. When complete, check a full cycle, stopping, and the selected response of each safety device. For E1 or E2, address the cause using diagnostics and repeat calibration only after the problem has been resolved.

A3 calibration sequence: closing CL1 and opening OP1

Programming using the display

Make settings with the drive stopped. Hold ENTER for at least 1 second, use the </> arrows to select a function, and press ENTER to open its value. Use the arrows to change the value, then press ENTER to confirm and save. ESC cancels an unconfirmed change and exits the menu; the menu also closes after 10 seconds of inactivity. Do not assume an unconfirmed change has been saved.

Display and ESC, arrow and ENTER buttons

Outside the menu, the arrows are used to move the gate during testing, and ESC is used to stop it. Check programming values and confirmation on the display. The PWR LED indicates that power is present.

F functions – full settings

Factory settings for the specified ZBX7N version are shown in bold. Function availability depends on the connected card, enabled encoder and related functions. Record the original setting before making changes. Do not set F34/F35 sensitivity or starting torque based on the maximum weight; after adjustment, you must check the forces and protective measures.

Storing remote controls

ZBX7N with radio card AF43S 433,92 MHz supports up to 250 users. TOP44RBN uses Rolling Code at 433,92 MHz. The relevant coding must be enabled in menu U4; do not assume that any remote control on the same frequency is compatible.

Insert or remove the AF card only when the power is off. With U4 = 1, all supported codes are enabled; U4 = 2 restricts reception to Rolling Code. Before confirming the U4 selection, be prepared for the radio memory to be erased: in this older version, selecting the coding automatically deletes stored remote controls. First record the users and prepare to store them again; F8 matching alone does not confirm how U4 behaves.

  1. Select U1 in the menu and press ENTER.
  2. Select the command: 1 = open/close; 2 = open–STOP–close–STOP; 3 = open only; 4 = partial opening.
  3. Confirm by pressing ENTER. The available user number, 1–250, will flash on the display for a few seconds.
  4. While it is flashing, send the code by pressing the desired button on the remote control. Record the stored slot; after leaving the menu, test the command.
  5. Repeat U1 for another function or user. If error E15 appears, check the card, frequency and coding.

Add a user via U1 and send the code while the slot is flashing

Delete one or all users

One user: U2 → ENTER → use the arrows to select the stored number → ENTER. Text CLr confirms deletion. All users: U3 → ENTER → ON → ENTER. U3 is neither the A4 parameter reset nor the A3 calibration.

Parameter reset and memory transfer

A4 – Factory parameters

Before resetting, record A1, F54, the safety input settings, automatic closing and access details. Select A4, confirm with ENTER, choose ON, and confirm again with ENTER. Then check all required parameters, calibration status and safety functions. Do not assume that A4 confirms deletion of all radio users; use U3 to delete them.

F50 / F51 – Memory Roll

  1. Disconnect the power and insert the Memory Roll into the marked socket.
  2. After switching on, select F50 = ON and confirm with ENTER; users and configuration will be saved.
  3. Disconnect the power again before removing the card and inserting it into the other compatible board.
  4. On the target board, select F51 = ON and confirm with ENTER. Check the transferred settings against the specific drive and installation.
  5. After the transfer, it is advisable to remove the card, always with the power off.

Two MASTER / SLAVE drives

To both boards insert the RSE boards with the power off and connect A–A, B–B and GND–GND using UTP CAT5. Connect commands and safety devices to the MASTER. On the MASTER, set F49 = 1, the correct F54, and F52 = ON, then confirm the transfer; next, run A3. Store users on the MASTER. The SLAVE programming buttons are disabled in coupled mode.

RSE board and serial connection A, B and GND

A standard open/close or open-only command operates both leaves; a partial-open command opens only the MASTER. Coupling two operators does not increase the weight limit for a single leaf. For standalone CRP communication, use the corresponding F49/F56/F63 settings, not MASTER/SLAVE mode.

RIO wireless safety devices

Connect the RIOCN8WS to RIO-CONN with the power off. Set up RIOED8WS safety edges and RIOPH8WS photocells using the relevant F65–F68 settings and according to their own wiring; RIOLX8WS is for wireless signalling. Without configuration, the control board may report E18; if the connection fails or is disrupted, it may report E17. Do not confuse RIO-CONN with the AF socket for remote controls.

Troubleshooting

DisplayMeaningCheck / solution
E1Calibration error.Check the mechanical stops, limit stops, free movement, A1 and F54; then repeat A3.
E2Calibration / encoder setup.First check whether A3 learningwas completed successfully, and check F11. E2 alone is not E3 – encoder fault. If the message persists after successful learning, check the factory encoder wiring and contact service.
E3Encoder fault. With the power off, check the +/E/D connector and wires; have any damage repaired by a service technician. Do not disable the safety system as a substitute for repair.
E4Safety test error.Compare the actual TS wiringand the photocell power supply and contact with F5 and F2/F3.
E7Insufficient operating time.Check resistance along the entire travel path, end positions and calibration. Do not increase the force on a binding gate.
E8Release hatch open.Lock the mechanism and close the hatch; check that it is detected.
E9Obstacle detected while closing.Remove the obstacle; manually check the guide/rack, then F34/F35.
E10Obstacle detected while opening.Remove the obstacle from the opening path, check the guide and limit switch, then adjust sensitivity.
E11Maximum number of detected obstacles reached.Check for recurring resistance or an obstacle along the entire travel path, and check the encoder; after repairs, perform a test.
E15Incompatible remote control.Check the AF card, frequency and U4; do not try to resolve the error by resetting the entire control board.
E17Wireless system error.Check the RIO interface, devices and interference. The system may block movement.
E18Wireless system configuration missing.Check the RIOCN8WS and configure the relevant F65–F68 settings and devices.

When the gate does not move or close

Does not move in either direction: check the power supply, operator lock, hatch, STOP status and safety contacts, remote-control battery, and whether a command is stuck. Opens but does not close: check the photocell beam, alignment, NC contact and CX/CY configuration; do not install a permanent jumper across a connected safety device.

ZBX7N fuses for 230 V

FuseRating / type
LINE – mains5 A-F, fast-acting
BOARD – control board630 mA-F, fast-acting
ACCESSORIES – accessories1 A-F, fast-acting

Disconnect the power supply before checking fuses. Use the same rating and fast-acting type; a higher-rated fuse or repeated replacement without eliminating the short circuit is not a repair.

Maintenance and force adjustment

Regularly check that the travel path and rack are clean, movement is unobstructed, fixings are secure, limit stops are in place, cables are undamaged, the release mechanism works, and every safety device functions correctly. Disconnect the power supply before cleaning or carrying out any work. Lubricate only mechanical parts that require it; the guide must not create additional friction.

Motor torque is adjusted using the transformer's black Faston terminal, in positions 1 to 4: 1 is the minimum, 4 the maximum. Only a technician may move the terminal, with the power off and according to the original diagram. Encoder sensitivity is adjusted separately via F34/F35; higher torque or lower sensitivity is no substitute for correctly positioning the safety edges and testing the forces.

The service record should include the date, number of manoeuvres A5, version H1, repairs performed and the result of the safety-device test. When finished, refit the covers without trapping any cables.
