Simplified procedure for wiring and starting the MC824HR10 control unit (with MCA1R10)

If you don’t feel like reading the entire manual for NICE Toona 24V operators with the NICE MC824HR10 control unit (with MCA1R10), you can get the operator up and running in just a few minutes using this simplified procedure.

We assume that the swing gate can be opened and closed manually and, of course, that its movement is limited by stops at the end positions — see Limiting swing-gate movement with stops.

The easiest way is to get the motors running with the control unit alone, without any accessories, which you can connect later, one at a time. But you can also connect the accessories right away; it doesn’t matter, as anything can be connected or disconnected at any time. You can always reset the control unit to factory settings.

Step 0. Wiring

Power supply cable
Terminal L — live wire from the power supply cable
Terminal N — neutral wire from the power supply cable
Terminal with the earth symbol — earth wire from the power supply cable

Motors
First, identify which motor is the primary motor and which is the secondary motor. The primary motor is the one that closes first.
For outward opening, reverse the polarity (positive and negative) on both motors. If you have only one motor, connect it to M2.

Warning light
Connect the two-core cable from the warning light, from the terminal marked with the light-bulb symbol, to the FLASH terminal on the control unit. If you are not installing a warning light, leave the FLASH terminal unconnected.

Antenna
If your control unit has a radio receiver with a terminal, connect the antenna to it; otherwise, connect the antenna to the control unit. If you don’t have an antenna, connect the supplied wire to the first terminal on the receiver (this serves as a temporary antenna).

Photocells
Run a two-core cable from the BUS (BlueBUS) terminal on the control unit to each photocell, or connect the control unit to the first photocell and then from there to the second. Polarity does not matter. Do not break any circuits on the circuit board.

Step 1. Procedure for getting the operator running:

  1. Disconnect the control unit from the power supply. The easiest way is to remove the power fuse.
  2. Unlock the operators and manually move the gate leaves to about halfway along their travel (so the gate is neither open nor closed), lock the operators, then move the leaves a little to engage the gearbox.
  3. Set the operator model selector to match your operator model.
    Operator model DIP switch settings
    MB4024, MB5024, HY7024, HY7124 all down, number 1 up
MFAB3024 all down, number 2 up
    TO4024, XFAB2124, LFAB4024 all down, number 3 up
    TO5024, TO5024I all down, number 4 up
    TO7024, TO6024HS all down, number 5 up
BFAB5024 all down, number 6 up
METROELITE, MFAB3024HS, TO5024HS all down, number 7 up
    WINGOELITE, WG3524HS, LFAB4024HS,
    TTN3724HS, TTN6024HS
    all down, number 8 up
  4. Restore power to the operator.
  5. With factory settings, the BlueBUS LED and LEDs L1+L2 on the control unit should be flashing (or after a reset, the L1+L2 LEDs should flash).
  6. Run device detection: Press and hold the OPEN+STOP/SET buttons at the same time (the first and second buttons). When LEDs L1+L2 start flashing faster (approx. When LEDs L1+L2 start flashing faster (approx. 3–4 seconds), release the buttons. LEDs L1+L2 will continue flashing for a short while, then L3+L4 will start flashing.
  7. Run gate travel detection: Press and hold STOP/SET+CLOSE together. When L3+L4 start flashing faster (after about 5 seconds) and the gate begins to move, release the buttons.
Note: For the complete procedures for detecting the gate leaves, see the separate article on detecting gate-leaf movement.
  8. The gate leaves will perform the following sequence (gate-leaf movement detection can be interrupted at any time by pressing STOP):
    1. Both leaves will open slightly.
Note: If they move in the wrong direction, i.e. close slightly, interrupt the movement by pressing STOP, disconnect the control unit from the power supply, and reverse the polarity on both motors. If one leaf starts opening and the other starts closing, reverse the polarity only on the motor that started closing. To reverse the polarity, swap the wires between the + (positive) and − (negative) terminals in the three-terminal motor block for that motor. Also swap the wires for that encoder.
    2. The lower leaf will close completely.
Note: If the wrong leaf starts moving (i.e. the upper one), interrupt the movement by pressing STOP, disconnect the control unit from the power supply, and swap the complete three-terminal motor blocks M1 and M2.
    3. The upper leaf will close completely.
    4. The upper leaf will start opening, followed shortly by the lower leaf.
    5. Both leaves will open completely.
    6. The lower leaf will start closing, followed shortly by the upper leaf.
    7. Both leaves will close completely, and the control unit will save their end positions to memory.
  9. L3+L4 will go out, and you should now be able to open and close the gate using the OPEN, STOP/SET, and CLOSE buttons. The OPEN button opens the gate, the CLOSE button closes it, and the STOP/SET button stops it.
  10. Congratulations — great job getting the NICE MC824HR10 swing-gate control unit up and running!

If you haven’t already, you can now connect the photocells, warning light, key switch, or other accessories, insert the receiver, and pair the remote controls.
