Evaluation of gate leaf movement with NICE operators connected to the NICE MC824HR10 control unit (with MCA1R10)

The movement of the gate leaves controlled by the NICE MC824HR10 control unit with NICE MCA1R10 controller can be configured in three ways:

  • automatically, whereby the controller runs the motors between the open and closed positions and automatically determines the delay points for the lower leaf relative to the upper leaf.
  • manually, whereby you use the buttons on the controller to specify exactly where the gate should stop and when each leaf should start after a delay.
  • a combination of both, whereby the positions are first detected automatically, after which you can fine-tune the delay points (positions) manually.

What are these delay points?
As a rule, every double-leaf gate has one leaf with a stop against which the other leaf rests. So one leaf is the lower leaf, which must close first, and the other is the upper leaf, which must close second. This means the leaves cannot start moving from the closed position at the same time. The upper leaf must start first, and after a short delay the lower leaf follows. The point at which the lower leaf starts is the delay point. When closing, it is exactly the opposite: the lower leaf closes first, and the upper leaf starts a little later so that they reach the closed position in the correct order.

Automatic detection of end positions

  1. Press and hold STOP/SET+CLOSE together. When L3+L4 start flashing faster (after about 5 seconds) and the gate starts moving, release the buttons.
  2. The leaves will perform the following sequence (the leaf movement detection process can be interrupted at any time by pressing STOP):
    1. Both leaves open slightly.
Note: If they move in the opposite direction, i.e. close slightly, interrupt the operation by pressing STOP, disconnect the controller from the power supply, and reverse the polarity on both motors. If one leaf starts opening and the other starts closing, reverse the polarity only on the motor that started closing. To reverse the polarity, swap the wires between the + (positive) and - (negative) terminals in the three-terminal motor connection for that motor. Also swap the wires on the encoder for that motor.
    2. The lower leaf closes fully.
Note: If the wrong leaf starts moving (i.e. the upper leaf), interrupt the operation by pressing STOP, disconnect the controller from the power supply, and swap the complete three-terminal motor connections M1 and M2.
    3. The upper leaf closes fully.
    4. The upper leaf starts opening, followed shortly by the lower leaf.
    5. Both leaves open fully.
    6. The lower leaf starts closing, followed shortly by the upper leaf.
    7. The leaves close fully, and the controller saves their end positions to memory.
  3. L3+L4 turn off. You should now be able to open and close the gate using the OPEN, STOP/SET and CLOSE buttons. The OPEN button opens the gate, the CLOSE button closes it, and the STOP/SET button stops it.

Manual detection of end positions

If the controller does not correctly detect the end positions or the positions at which it with a delay starts opening the lower leaf and closing the upper leaf, you can set the motor positions manually.

Warning: You have 10 seconds to press each button. After this time, the controller automatically ends the programming process and saves the current state.

Note: when one of the LEDs L1 to L8 is flashing, meaning that the corresponding position is being set, you can press Open or Close repeatedly to move to another LED representing a different position you want to set. This is mainly useful in the combined mode.

Step 0. Starting the manual detection process
Press and hold the Stop/Set and Close buttons. When LED L1 starts flashing faster (approx. 3 seconds), release the buttons.

Step 1. L1 flashes – teach the closed position of motor M1
Press and hold the Close button to move motor M1 to the closed position. Release the button when the motor reaches this position.
Save the position by pressing and holding the Stop/Set. After two seconds, the LED L1 changes from flashing to solid. Release the button after another second, and LED L2 starts flashing..

Step 2: L2 flashes – teach the closed position of motor M2
Press and hold the Close button to move motor M2 to the closed position. Release the button when the motor reaches this position.
Save the position by pressing and holding the Stop/Set. After two seconds, the LED L2 changes from flashing to solid. Release the button after another second, and LED L3 starts flashing..

Step 3: L3 flashes – teach the position of motor M2 at which motor M1 starts opening
Press and hold the Open or Close buttons to move motor M2 to the position at which motor M1should start opening after a delay. Release the button when you have set this position. This can be the same position as the closed position.
Save the position by pressing and holding the Stop/Set. After two seconds, the LED L3 changes from flashing to solid. Release the button after another second, and LED L4 starts flashing..

Step 4: L4 flashes – teach the desired open position of motor M1
Press and hold the Open or Close buttons to move motor M1 to the position where you want it to stop while opening under normal conditions. Release the button when you have set this position. This can be the fully open position (against the stop).
Save the position by pressing and holding the Stop/Set. After two seconds, the LED L4 changes from flashing to solid. Release the button after another second, and LED L5 starts flashing..

Step 5: L5 flashes – teach the desired open position of motor M2
Press and hold the Open or Close buttons to move motor M2 to the position where you want it to stop while opening under normal conditions. Release the button when you have set this position. This can be the fully open position (against the stop).
Save the position by pressing and holding the Stop/Set. After two seconds, the LED L5 changes from flashing to solid. Release the button after another second, and LED L6 starts flashing..

Step 6: L6 flashes – teach the position of motor M1 at which motor M1 starts closing
Press and hold the Open or Close buttons to move motor M1 to the position at which motor M2should start closing after a delay. Release the button when you have set this position. This can be the same position as the closed position.
Save the position by pressing and holding the Stop/Set. After two seconds, the LED L6 changes from flashing to steady. After another second, release the button, and the LED L7 starts flashing..

Step 7: L7 flashes – learning the motor M2 maximum open position (at the stop)
Press and hold the Open button to move the motor M2 to the open position. Release the button when the motor reaches this position.
Save the position by pressing and holding the Stop/Set. After two seconds, the LED L7 changes from flashing to steady; after another second, release the button, and the LED L8 starts flashing..

Step 8: L8 flashes – learning the motor M1 maximum open position (at the stop)
Press and hold the Open button to move the motor M1 to the open position. Release the button when the motor reaches this position.
Save the position by pressing and holding the Stop/Set. After two seconds, the LED L8 changes from flashing to steady; after another second, release the button.

At this point, you should have set the end positions and the positions at which deceleration begins during closing.

Combined end-position setup

In principle, the procedure is to first set the positions automatically and then, following the procedure in manual mode adjust the selected positions to the required values, skipping those that are already suitable.

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Start the automatic setup and let it run to completion.
  2. Press and hold the Stop/Set and Close buttons. When LED L1 starts flashing faster (approx. 3 seconds), release the buttons (you have now entered manual setup).
  3. Repeatedly press Open or Close to move the flashing LED to the LED for the position you want to change, then adjust it according to the procedure in manual mode .
  4. Once you have changed what you need to, press Close until the flashing LED moves past L8.

Control units with a Bus-T4 connector can also be programmed from your mobile phone if you purchase a NICE BIDIWIFI programmer, or another programmer. Programming is more convenient and also gives you access to more detailed settings.
