Simplified procedure for connecting and commissioning NICE Road gate operators
If you don’t feel like reading the entire manual for Road operators, you can get your NICE Road operator up and running in just a few minutes by following this simplified wiring and setup procedure.
We assume the sliding gate moves freely and that you have completed the steps for installing the rack, installing the operator and fitting the rack end stops.
In other words, with the operator released, you can move the gate by hand, and the operator’s limit switch activates in both the fully closed and fully open positions.
The easiest way is to get the operator itself running without any accessories, which you can connect later, one at a time. But you can connect the accessories right away if you like; it doesn’t matter when you do it, and you can connect or disconnect anything at any time. You can always restore the operator to factory settings.
Step 0. Wiring
Power supply cable
Terminal L – live wire from the power supply cable
Terminal N – neutral wire from the power supply cable
Terminal with the earth symbol – earth wire from the power supply cable
Flashing warning light
Connect the two-core cable from the warning light, from the terminal marked with the bulb symbol, to terminals 7–8 on the control unit. If you are not installing a warning light, leave terminals 7–8 unconnected.
Antenna
There is a terminal marked with the antenna symbol at the top right. If you have an antenna, either a separate one or one built into the warning light, connect it to this terminal. If you don’t have an antenna, you can connect a short piece of wire to the hole marked with the tree-shaped symbol. You can also leave the terminal unconnected for now.
Photoelectric safety sensors
If you don’t have photoelectric safety sensors, bridge terminals 1 and 5 on the control unit. If you do have them, connect them as follows:
Connect terminal 1 from each sensor to terminal 1 on the control unit.
Connect terminal 2 from each sensor to terminal 4 on the control unit.
Connect terminal 4 on the RX sensor to terminal 1 on the control unit.
Connect terminal 5 on the RX sensor to terminal 5 on the control unit.
Do not break any circuits on the photoelectric sensor circuit boards. More about wiring photoelectric safety sensors.
Step 1. How to get the operator running:
- Disconnect the operator from the power supply. The easiest way is to remove the power fuse.
- Move the gate by hand to roughly halfway along its travel (so it is neither open nor closed), engage the operator, then pull the gate leaf slightly so the gearbox engages.
- Set the gate opening direction selector on the control unit. Standing inside the property and facing the gate from the inside:
- if the operator is on the left (the gate opens to the left), set the selector to the left as well;
- if the operator is on the right (the gate opens to the right), set the selector to the right.
- Restore power to the operator.
- With the factory settings (or after a reset), LEDs L1+L2+L3 should flash together on the control unit.
- Press the OPEN button once, without holding it down. L2+L3 will then start flashing, the control unit will read the status of the inputs and begin measuring the gate leaf’s travel. The gate will close, open and then close again. LED L4 will then keep flashing. Wait for it to go out (about 10 seconds).
- Congratulations! Great job—you’ve got your NICE Road sliding gate operator up and running! You should now be able to operate the gate using the OPEN, STOP/SET and CLOSE buttons. The OPEN button opens the gate, the CLOSE button closes it, and the STOP/SET button stops it.
If you haven’t already, you can connect the photoelectric safety sensors, warning light, key switch or other accessories, and pair the remote controls.
