Pairing remotes with each other, from one remote to another
Depending on the remote model, remotes can be paired with each other in the following ways:
- either the classic NICE method
- using code transfer from the old remote to the new remote
Classic pairing of NICE remotes with each other
You need to have the old remote, already paired with the drive, in one hand and the new remote, not yet paired with the drive, in the other.
Stand as close as possible to the drive or antenna (or the beacon, if the antenna is inside it).
- On the new remote, press and hold the button you want to program for 7 seconds, then release it.
- On the old remote, press the button that operates the drive three times in a row, holding it for one second each time; the gate should no longer move.
- On the new remote, press the same button as in the first step once for one second.
- Wait 10 seconds and test the new remote.
If you have more than one drive, repeat this procedure for each drive.
It’s not working:
- In the first step, try counting out the full 7 seconds.
- In the second step, press a little more slowly—three times in a row for one second each, with a firm press.
- Don’t leave long pauses between steps.
- Make sure that you’re pressing the button on the old remote that operates the drive, and that the button on the new remote has not already been paired with the drive.
- Pairing remotes with each other does not work with some older receivers, so pair the remote directly with the drive instead.
- Pairing remotes with each other can be disabled on some receivers. This is fairly common in shared facilities (apartment buildings, shared garages, parking lots, rented commercial premises, etc.). In that case, the only option is to contact the property manager.
- The remotes may not be compatible; try checking their compatibility.
- The old remote may operate a NICE device but not be an original NICE remote. In that case, try pairing the remote directly with the drive.
Pairing remotes with each other by transferring a code
This procedure is only for remotes using the following coding systems:
- NICE O-Code, NICE One, NICE Era One, NICE Era Inti, and combinations of these with one another
- BD NICE Era One BD (remote ON3EBD)
- LR NICE Era One LR (remote ON3ELR)
| Coding | Series | Note |
|---|---|---|
| O-Code |
Era One |
They are also compatible with one another across series. |
| BD | Era One BD | In theory, you can combine ON3EBD with O-Code remotes if you switch it to unidirectional mode. |
| LR | Era One LR | Remotes with LR coding are compatible only with other remotes with LR coding. |
You need to have the old remote, already paired with the drive, in one hand and the new remote, not yet paired with the drive, in the other.
You don’t even need to be near the drive. The old remote transfers part of its code to the new one. When the new remote is brought to the drive, pressing its button sends the remote’s own code along with the transferred code to the drive. The receiver uses the transferred code to authorize the remote and store it in memory. Note: the new remote transmits this transferred code only for the first 20 button presses after receiving it.
O-Code
- Hold the remotes together so they touch.
- On the new remote, press and hold the button you want to use to operate the drive until the LED on the old remote lights up, then release it. The LED on the old remote will then start flashing.
- On the old remote, press and hold the button that operates the drive until the LED on the new remote lights up, then release it.
- The LEDs go out, and you’re done.
If they don’t go out, the following error codes may flash:
4 – code transfer is disabled
6 – code transfer between different remotes is disabled
10 – communication error between devices
15 – timed out
BD
- Hold the remotes together so they touch.
- On the new remote, press the button you want to use to operate the drive once, without holding it down. The LED on the old remote will start flashing.
- On the old remote, press the button that operates the drive once, without holding it down. Both remotes will then vibrate and light up green, then go out, and you’re done.
