Wiring a key switch to the NICE Robus RBS sliding gate operator
The key switch has two positions. You can turn the key either to the right or to the left. A spring inside the switch returns the key to the center. There are two microswitches in the switch, each with three terminals: NC, C and NO. You can wire up just one side of the key switch, both sides, or neither. It does not affect the drive’s operation; it is an optional accessory. You can wire each side of the key switch to either the STOP, SbS (Step by Step; step-by-step operation, formerly P.P., Italian for “passo-passo,” meaning “step by step”), OPEN or CLOSE terminal.
Possible wiring configurations and functions:
- STOP input is connected to the microswitch in the key switch at terminals NC and C. Turning the key in this direction only stops the gate (and holds it in place).
- SbS (P.P.) input is connected to the microswitch at terminals NO and C. Repeatedly turning the key in this direction makes the gate move up and down and stop, depending on how it is programmed. The factory setting works as follows: with the gate closed, turning the key once starts opening it; turning it again stops it; turning it a third time starts closing it; and turning it once more does not stop it but immediately starts opening it again. If the gate is fully open, turning the key closes it. This works the same way as repeatedly pressing the remote control.
- OPEN input It is wired and works just like SbS, except that it only opens the gate, stops it, and opens it again. Once the gate is open, it stops responding.
- CLOSE input works in the opposite way to the OPEN input: it only closes the gate, stops it, and closes it again. When the gate is closed, it does not respond. This input can be reprogrammed to partially open the gate (pedestrian access input).
Key switch wiring summary
The original manual shows wiring to the STOP and SbS terminals: from one microswitch, run a two-core cable from terminals NC and C to the STOP input on the control unit; from the other microswitch, run a cable from terminals NO and C to the SbS input on the control unit. This means that turning the key one way opens, closes or stops the gate, while turning it the other way only stops it. You can, however, wire the key switch in any way you like.
Remember to disconnect the drive from the power supply before making any wiring changes. After changing the wiring and restoring power, detect the connected devices by holding down the OPEN+STOP/SET buttons until the L1+L2 LEDs start flashing, then release them.
