Simplified procedure for connecting and starting the NICE Wide barrier
Applies to the WIA20R10 control unit.
If you don’t want to read the entire manual for Wide barriers, you can get your NICE Wide barrier up and running in just a few minutes using this simplified wiring and startup procedure.
We assume that the barrier arm is properly balanced: when you release the barrier and position the arm at approximately 45°, it should stay in place.
In other words, with the barrier arm released, you should be able to move it by hand, and the drive limit switches should operate in both the open and closed positions as follows:
- In the open position, the FCC LED should be lit and the FCA LED should be off.
- In the closed position, the FCA LED should be lit and the FCA LED should be off.
- In an intermediate position, both should be lit.
If the LEDs indicate the opposite, disconnect the power, unplug the limit-switch connector, turn it 180°, and plug it back in.
The easiest way is to get the barrier itself moving without any accessories, which you can connect later, one at a time. You can also connect the accessories right away—it doesn’t matter when you do it; anything can be connected or disconnected at any time.
Step 1. Getting the barrier moving
- Position the arm at 45° and lock it in place.
- Disconnect the barrier’s power supply.
- Jumper inputs 6-10, 6-11 and 6-12.
- Set all DIP switches 1 to 14 to OFF.
- Set all trimmers to the midpoint.
- Restore power to the barrier.
- Briefly close the circuit between terminals 6 and 14; the arm should move slightly upwards. If it moves downwards, disconnect the power, unplug the motor connector, turn it 180°, plug it back in, and restore power.
- Add a control device, either a temporary push button or a paired remote control.
- Temporary push button: Disconnect the barrier’s power supply. Connect a temporary push button to input 6-13; we’ll call it SbS. Restore power.
- Remote control: Press the RADIO button once. The LED will start flashing; then press and hold the remote control (approx. 3–4 seconds) until the LED flashes noticeably three times.
- Set DIP switch number 1 (the first one at the edge) to ON.
- Press the SbS button (or remote control) once without holding it; the barrier should start opening. Pressing it repeatedly should stop and close it. You can adjust the trimmers at this stage.
- Press and hold the PROG button, then release it once the barrier starts moving. The control unit will start learning the limit positions: the barrier will close completely, open, and then close again.
- Set DIP switches 13 and 14 to ON; the control unit will save the settings.
- Great, you’ve got the barrier moving!
Always make any changes to the switch and trimmer settings while switches 13 and 14 are set to OFF. After making a change, set switches 13 and 14 back to ON and check whether the setting has been saved. This applies to all changes made to the trimmers and switches.
If everything is working as it should, great—you can connect photocells, a warning light, key switch, or other accessories, and pair the remote controls.
