Preparing the foundations and space for sliding gates
Build your own sliding gate. With our recommendations and instructions, you can build your own gate. We supply customers with the components needed to build a gate, along with instructions, so they can assemble, install and commission it with minimal expertise. But let’s take it step by step, starting with the foundations.
Foundation for a cantilever gate
One of the advantages of a cantilever gate is minimal impact on the driveway — the gate runs a few centimetres above the ground and requires no work on the driveway when preparing the foundation. Of course, this assumes that nothing is blocking the gate’s path.
The foundation for the support carriages is important. They can be secured to threaded rods cast into the foundation, to threaded rods bonded into the foundation with chemical anchors or steel anchors.
If you are building a gate without an operator, we recommend installing cable conduits in advance. This will allow you to fit an operator at any time in the future without any additional work.

Foundation for a track gate
A track gate foundation consists of a track that is bolted to the ground. This means we need a few metres of ideally level driveway, so the gate sits properly. The track runs along the width of the opening, plus an equal distance for the gate to slide open.
If the track is fixed to a solid foundation (one that does not deform), its load capacity is around 40 tonnes. The track can even withstand the axle load of a fully loaded lorry.
Here too, we recommend preparing the foundation for an operator in advance (if you are building a gate without one).

Foundation for a suspended gate
A suspended gate has its entire support and sliding mechanism positioned at the top of the gate, so no foundation needs to be prepared. All you need is a wall or structure to attach the C-profile to and fit the carriages onto, and the gate is ready to operate.
Of course, nothing can obstruct the gate. Neither the opening path nor the path along which it slides open.
